Sample Sale Report: Elie Tahari April 2012
When I stopped by the Elie Tahari Sample Sale it was fairly busy as professional women sifted through racks upon racks of feminine and business appropriate merchandise. Looking for a suit jacket or a pencil skirt? You’ll find plenty of options. A blouse with a smattering of metallic beading or a sheath dress, you’ll find it here. The vast majority of samples available at the sale are a size 6 unless otherwise indicated – otherwise from the stock pieces available I spotted sizes XS-M.
The sale requires you to check all coats and handbags so be prepared to shop with just your wallet and cell phone in hand.

Sample Sale Report: Elie Tahari
Last night I had a chance to stop by the Elie Tahari sale after work. I arrived around 6:30 and thankfully there wasn't a lineup to get in. The space is fairly large with the mix of mens to womenswear being 25/75 in favor of womenswear. While the womenswear section was a bit more crowded, thankfully the men's section was relatively tame.
In terms of pricing, knits and T's were $19-$39 with the majority of what I saw priced at $19. Shirts and pants were $49, sweaters $69, and jackets/outerwear ranged from $99-$279. In terms of sizing, the majority of shirts/knits/sweaters were M, pants sizes were mostly 32, and outerwear ranged (mostly larger sizes for nylon coats - XL, and smaller sizes for leather - S).
In terms of the knits, I really dug this striped paneled T for $19(show above right). The stripes are individual panels sewn together vs printed on which creates a much more polished look. I actually picked up something similar to this at the Richard Chai sale a few weeks ago - otherwise this would have definitely come home with me.

Elie Tahari Menswear Fall 2011
Earlier this week, I wasn't feeling too hot - so Erin stopped by the Elie Tahari Menswear Fall/11 presentation and snapped up some pics. Anyways, here's my take on the upcoming collection:
Like most of the fall lines I saw this year for menswear, the color pallate was neutral and featured greys, black, and earth tones. Lines were kept simple and clean with subtle detailing which is what Tahari's menswear is all about.
There were some brown/taupe colored pieces including the above sweater paired with a great pair of gray slacks and a leather jacked with piped trim detailing.
As with most of Tahari's pieces, there's a softness to his garments aesthetically speaking and the above military themed jacket is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Military inspired clothing for the most part is often accompanied by a roughness or edge usually acheived through the detailing, hardware, cut or more rugged fabric choices. Tahari's piece incorporates the stylistic elements of a military jacket (including the collar and shoulder flap details) but is paired with a more delicate fabric choice and method of detailing which keeps the bulk of the jacket down and streamlines the look to embody a relaxed yet polished feel.

Pre-Fall 2011 Trends: Cherry Bomb
I’ve previously wrote in Pre-Spring 2010 that red shoes were a definite trend to keep your eye on, but now the designers have taken it from the feet and moved on up, many creating bold head to toe color outfits in all shades of red. From Cherry to Pimento, Apple to Beet the reds are all here to stay and making a statement.
Pre-Fall 2011 was an explosion of red all over the runways, regardless of occasion or fabrication. Deep red tones from Adam, Armani Collezioni and Elie Tahari look great for eveningwear, while classic reds at Jason Wu, Carolina Herrera and Vera Wang look great for cocktails and making a statement. My personal favorite use of red is the top and bottom combos that have a slight menswear feel by DKNY, Jenni Kayne and Thakoon. If you are feeling lady like though Oscar De La Renta, Nina Ricci and Reed Krakoff looks might fit the bill. If all that red makes you nervous though, just try on a red jacket ala Preen, Stella McCartney or Michael Kors.

Preview Designs from Fall 2010
Less than 1 week left until Fashion Week and the anticipation is slowly starting to build up from the pit of my stomach. What will this fashion week bring? It's the last time the Tents will be in Bryant Park and as I see them set up for the final time I can't help but feel nostalgic for my very first Fashion Week in NYC.

It was September of 2006 and it was a beautiful week! At that time I had just started my job search in a city that I would call my home and through some random luck and some of the very first friends I made in this city I was able to attend and even crash a couple shows. It woke up something inside of me that screamed, this is the reason you are here! This is New York!!! Fortunately, this season we'll have the chance to attend some shows and it will serve as a reminder why I work in the fashion industry. I have yet to pin down my fashion week schedule but I have high hopes and the promise to keep you all up too date!

The fall 2010 collection was inspired by a mixture of 70’s Parisian attitude and an urban New York City girl. With a renewed love for classic sportswear, silhouettes have been re-worked with a twist to give subtle edge on signature feminine designs. The palette includes dusty hues and new neutrals contrasted with military olives and hints of old gold. Fabrics are washed to provide a worn, overly-loved appeal and are combined with cashmere wool suits, leopard faux furs and down quilted coats, together giving this collection an affordable luxe quality.
