Deal of the Day: Ballerina Tie Leggings

Back in the summer when I wore these Ballerina Tie Leggings (courtesy of Anzevino & Florence) a few people mentioned that they loved them. Unfortunately Anzevino & Florence didn’t survive to produce more of these leggings. Recently while shopping on Betsey Johnson’s online sale though, I noticed a very similar pair of leggings for $33 (was $110). Currently all sizes are available so if you want to snag yourself a pair for warmer weather, act now! Otherwise, if you are crafty you might want to try attaching some ribbon on a pair of bicycle shorts for a DIY version.

Preview: Betsey Johnson Archive

The folks at Dazed Digital released the first pics of Betsey Johnson Archive Collection which in collaboration of the boutique Opening ceremony will bring you a 35-piece collection of clothing and accessories based on Johnson’s signature line as well as her Alley Cat and Paraphernalia lines from the 1960s. The Betsey Johnson Archive collection will be available for fall 2009 at Opening Ceremony NY and LA and at select Betsey Johnson boutiques.

Circle Ring Zippers, Snake and cherry print, mini's, peplums and a harem jumpsuit make up this collection based on some of her favorite "classics". I personally like the cherry print peplum and the snakeskin print, but some pieces are looking slightly too fresh in my mind as total 80s. What do you think? Are you feeling this collection?

Sample Sale Report: Betsey Johnson

The Betsey Johnson sale was fairly busy when I stopped by after wok last night at 6:30 but it was manageable. There was no line to enter and no coat/bag check. The majority of people at the sale were crammed in the changing area or standing in line to pay for their goods.

Shoes were the first thing I saw at the sale and they have some additional sizes aside from what is on display but the majority of 37 and 38 is cleared out. What remains are 36, 40 and some size 39s. The Betseyville was $30 while signature Betsey Johnson was $40.

The sweaters were $35 but the tables lay almost completely bare. Make up bags were $10 for small, $15 for medium and $25 for large. I only saw one style of leopard print tote for $35. Closer to the accessories table was another box full of cosmetic cases for $7.

Swimwear was $25 for tops or bottoms but I could only see 5 bottoms bunched on a table. Accessories were available but nothing fabulous. Lucite necklaces or plastic beads were 15 to 25. Earrings $10, Bracelets $15. Perfume was available but people were blocking the table I'm guessing it was around $50?

Dresses as always were plentiful, but not as many as when sales were previously held on 37th Street! It's Betsey so bows, sequins, eyelet, tulle, lace, ruffles, crinolines, corseted details and leopard print were the commonplace. Pastel Cupcake sweetness with a bit of rocker girl edge! Not that many dresses looked "day" although they were categorized under it!

Worth checking out if you're looking for a frothy girly dress or have a 36 or 40 shoe size. If you are looking for handbags, sweaters or belts forget about it!

Fashion Suffers Bad Markets

If you were hoping to catch the Chanel Mobil Art Exhibit in London, Paris or Moscow, sorry to disapoint in a moved relating to the crumbling of the global economy, New York's showing ending last month will now be the stopping point of the costly endeavor.

A Chanel spokeswoman told WWD, "Considering the current economic crisis, we decided it was best to stop the project. We will be concentrating on strategic growth investments."

This is yet another reflection of how bad things are getting in the fashion industry as countless labels are now canceling their Bryant Park runway shows in favors of presentations and small parties. DKNY, Vera Wang, Carmen Marc Valvo and Betsey Johnson will not be showing at Bryant Park. J. Mendel, Monique Lhuillier and Reem Acra are also considering other options for February.

On the plus side, much at Barney's is now 75% Off! If you're above the economy and have money to spend, now is the time to do it.
