Get Rodarte's Spidery Knits for Cheap?

Dear Readers,
I just saw a comment from one of you last night that made me wonder if there was any truth to this. I'm sure that many of you have admired Rodarte's spidery knits. And yes, there have been plenty of imitators and plenty of DIY's that have popped up the last few months. But for those of us who lack in complex knitting skills, have you wondered if it was possible to find Rodarte for less. Yes, there are the Rodarte for Target collection, but really the knit cardigans have a different feel. If anyone can confirm this is true and provide factory info, that would be lovely!
xo,
Erin

PS. if you live in LA you can go to the exact same factory that Rodarte uses to make its knits and create your own for about $300 instead of $2000 +

Question of the Week: Styling Rodarte for Target

- Jun, California
I know this photo was just to show how the cardigan fits on you, but I think this outfit could work. I would maybe wear some cream or lighter colored tights to balance out the top; right now it's a little black-heavy on bottom.
The cardigan would look great over a simple, fitted dress. Something voluminous could look frumpy and granny when paired with the lace. I would also avoid dresses and tops with short or 3/4 sleeves because they will create distracting lines under the cardigan.
While it's still chilly out, consider long sleeve dresses like this one, and pair with thick tights or leggings for warmth.

Forever 21 Black Knit Dress Refined, $24.80
Another reason why you shouldn't return the cardigan, nudes and buff tones are going to be hot this spring! You can do up the standstorm trend with khaki or gray colored dress. The cardigan would also look sweet with a light blue.

Brodie Strapless Chambray Dress, $58.00
As for accessorizing, a bow belt like the one in the top photo from the Rodarte Target lookbook would be adorable. I'm not a big fan of leopard and lace, so if it were me, I would probably go with a monotone belt like the ones below. I like the patent for a little polish and the straw one for a more casual earthy look.

Rodarte for Men

In all honesty I think I'm pretty lucky to be a woman! There are so many more apparel options available and if I do want to borrow from the boys it's not that hard or strange to rock menswear pieces. Well now art to wear loving men of the world can have one less thing to be jealous of...if they have the cash. This ain't no Target collaboration but the spiderweb delicate knits of the past couple Rodarte collections are here for the taking.
Thanks to Opening Ceremony, Rodarte has launched a small sweater collection! The 4 styles include 2 crewnecks and 2 cardigans and all retail for $2760 a piece.
Quite a pretty penny, and perhaps they may end up on more women than men? What do you think?

Target To-Go Opens Today

As we mentioned previously, the Target To-go pop-up will be opening today. The pop-ups will be open December 11-13, 2009 from 10am to 8pm. This morning at 9:30 though, shoppers get a special treat with Rachel Bilson helping host the opening.
NYC: Hello, Meatpacking! Gansevoort St & Washington (at the High Line)
Merch they will have according to WWD:

Retractable belts and posts similar to those used for crowd control at airports have been set up on the sidewalk. Customers will order items listed by number on a menu board. The selection includes fashion and beauty items, toys and electronics. For example, number two is a clear teardrop ornament for 99 cents; number six is a cashmere shawl, $24.99; number 15 is a pomegranate and cassis scented candle, $12.99, and a Rodarte for Target Sequin Rib Cage dress for $49.99 is number 40. Window vignettes trimmed in candy cane patterns are sorted by price — under $50, under $25 and so on. After placing their orders, shoppers go to a fast-food restaurant-like pickup window to collect their gifts, wrapped and ready for giving.

Inside the Rodarte for Target Look Book
For months we've been seeing bits and pieces of this Rodarte for Target collection and for months we have been asked by Target's PR to take down the early images. Magazines have been releasing shots slowly and now finally Target's own peek at the Rodarte line have hit our inbox. My takeaways? It's all about Leopard, Tulle and sequins. While this collection doesn't offer any of the art to wear feel that we've come to know and love from the Mulleavy sister's there is still plenty of the mysterious romantic gothic sensibility via skeletons and lace.
Again, the Rodarte for Target collection will launch in Target stores and on target.com December 20 and ranges in price from $9.99 - $79.99.

Left: Lace Bow Dress in Yellow Leopard: $44.99. Lace Tights in Black: $12.99.
Another strong shoulder dress in a simple leopard print. Although I love leopard, I'm not sure I'm quite feeling this one.

Right: Slip Dress in black: $39.99. Bow Belt in yellow leopard: $12.99. Lace Tights in black: $12.99. The dress gives me a eerie Japanese doll sort of feel. The bow belt is pretty cute. Black tights are fun and usable but not sensational. Wonder if the gloves are part of the collection.
Left: Lace Cardigan in Mustard: $29.99, Lace Cami in Black: $19.99, Lace and Tulle Skirt in Mustard: $29.99, Bow Belt in Black: $12.99, Lace Tights in Black: $12.99. It's a whole lot of mustard which I can't really pull off, think I like the Cardigan best but the rest is not so notable.
Right: Sequin Dress in Gray Leopard: $44.99, Lace Cardigan in Black: $29.99, Bow Belt in Gray Leopard, $12.99: Lace Tights in Black: $12.99. Wish I could see a better view of the dress. I'm not sure if I'll hate it or love it. The black Cardi although plain could make a useful staple in my closet.

Left: Swiss Dot Lace Dress in Blue: $39.99, Bow Belt in Yellow Leopard: $12.99, Cut-Out Knee Highs in Tan/Peach. This dress is a tad on the sweeter side of my liking.
Right: Denim Jacket, $39.99: Tulle Bow Top in Navy, $24.99, Lace and Tulle Skirt in Navy: $29.99, Lace Tights in Black: $12.99. Can't really understand what's going on here. A true example of styling gone wrong! It almost looks like hair is growing out of her sleeves and leaking down her arms.

Left: Sequin Rib Cage Dress in Black: $49.99, Striped Tee in White/Navy: $16.99, Lace Tights in Black: $12.99. What can I say? My fave look. Want, Need! Iconic.
Right: Lace-Print Dress in tan: $34.99. Lace Cardigan in tan: $29.99. Bow Belt in gray leopard: $12.99. Lace Tights in black: $12.99. Nude Cardigan? I think I'd be into it. A new staple when I tire of black in my life.

Target Pop-Up hits 3 Cities!
Why there is not a Target in Manhattan is often beyond me, but then again there wouldn’t be those awesome Target Pop-up shops, like the Proenza Schoueler at Opening Ceremony, the Bullseye Bodega, the McQ shop and the SoHo Anna Sui effort that features the newest exclusive designer collaborations all in one place and usually days before it hit’s Target stores across the nation.
Often these special pop-ups caused a bit of an outcry by non-New Yorker as being unfair but now Target has heard your cries. There will be not just one Target pop-up but 3 this time around. Lucky Washington and San Fran can join NYC to celebrate the Holidays with their “Target to Go” stores. This location will not only have holiday based merch but the lovely Mulleavy sister's Rodarte for Target line The pop-ups will be open December 11-13, 2009 from 10am to 8pm.

More Looks from Rodarte for Target
Image Nitrolicious via The Cut
Little by little the Rodarte for Target Collection has been leaking onto the internet thanks to bloggers :). This time thanks to Marie Claire we have clear images of some of the pieces including an amazing skeleton sequin dress (MUST HAVE!) a faux lambskin jacket, striped top and tulle trimmed skirt. I can't wait to see the whole collection together :) I was a little concerned last round when all I could see were high waisted pantyhose and bralets!

More Looks from Rodarte for Target
*Please note that photos have been removed at Target's Request*
Thanks to Seventeen Magazine, we get a good look at the Rodarte for Target line. As we've previously mentioned the 55 piece collection is set to debut on December 20, 2009 and prices will range from $9.99 for knee-highs to $79.99 for a leopard print jacket.
As you can see the line includes an X-ray print dress, tulle, sheer cardigans, leopard print, bows and faux fur. What do you think of it so far?

Gilt Sponsors Designers at NY Fashion Week

We all know the economic climate has been hard on everyone. It's been especially difficult for young designers to stay afloat. Just today, it was reported that Derek Lam's line has been losing $1 million a month! So it's really great to see Gilt Groupe supporting young talent.
Speaking of Gilt, brace yourselves because Wang and Rodarte will be available on the site later this month! If you aren't already a member, click here to sign up.

Preview: Rodarte for Target
**EDIT: we've removed the photo's at the request of Target, sorry if you missed your chance for a peek...xo We'll have hi-res pics when they become available**
Thanks to Racked and Paper Mag blogger Julia Frakes we get our first look at Rodarte for Target. I was super curious how the Mulleavy sister's creations would translate to mass, but from what I can tell the designs look super feminine and dreamy.

Rodarte x Target Go Interenational
People are talking about today's announcement that the Rodarte sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy will be the next Go International Designer for Target. The sisters are known in fashion circles for their beautiful and meticulously crafted art to wear pieces.
They will be designing a 55 piece collection set to hit stores nationwide and on Target.com on December 20, 2009. The collection will range from $9.99 for knee-highs to $79.99 for a leopard print jacket.
A Target spokesperson tells WWD:
It’s very feminine, yet very modern. The collection incorporates a rich mix of patterns and fabrications and everything from sequins and bows to faux fur. The key with Rodarte is layering...a variety of great holiday dresses. There are stand-alone pieces and pieces that can be worn together to create an ensemble by layering different patterns, textures and prints.

Meanwile Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders and Italo Zucchelli for Calvin Klein Collection tied for the Menswear Designer of the Year Award.

Marc Jacobs, looking adorable with Lorenzo won the The International Award, for his work at Louis Vuitton.
Other awards went to First Lady Michelle Obama for the CFDA’s Board of Directors’ Special Tribute. While, WWD editor in chief Edward Nardoza was honored with the Eugenia Sheppard Award. GQ Creative Director Jim Moore took the Eleanor Lambert Award.

Trends: Skeletons in Your Closet?
Both Looks Rodarte Spring 2009
Got something to hide? Not anymore. Designers showed the world on the Spring 2009 runways their bones. Whether it be through X-ray Vision Prints/Panels at McQueen, Narcisco Rodriguez or Ohne Titel to Rib-Cages at Lacroix and Rodarte or Skeletal Armour at Gucci, there is no better time to let the skeletons out of the closet.
