Go: Fine & Dandy Pop-Up Shop

Tonight I had a chance to stop by and visit a pop-up shop hosted at Onassis by a  couple of our favorite dapper gentlemen friends Matt Fox and Enrique Crane of Fine and Dandy - the online purveyors of all goods a fellow might need to be polished and well accessorized.  True to form, the fellows looked great in their signature bow ties as they sell their wares that now include brand new Spats!

From cuff links to suspenders, pocket squares and lapel pins – they’ve got you covered.  Whether you’re looking to up your clothing game or dress up your man, stop by and prepare to be charmed and become charming.

M:Zero Pop Up Shop

The Melissa jelly shoes have made their way to menswear - enter M:Zero. If you're a fan, ALTER is hosting a pop up shop starting today - March 17th, 2011 at their location in Williamsburg. There are a couple styles: A laced oxford and slip on - both constructed out of plastic and both will set you back $130 a pair.

While I don't mind the style of the shoe - I don't know if I'm a fan. Plastic/PVC is not porous, so it won't let your feet breathe. The women's line didn't have as much of an issue here since womens' shoes/sandals cover way less of your foot in terms of surface area. That being said, there are plenty of colors to choose from so if you're looking for a rainboot/shoe that doesn't look like one - this might be a great option for you. Go: Kate Spade Igloo

If you haven’t seen it already, the Kate Spade igloo in Bryant Park is not only an adorable little place to visit and warm up before or after skating (there is free hot cocoa), it’s sort of a gift shopping paradise.  Filled with great little accessory items that are full of whimsy and sure to delight even the ficklest lady on your shopping list. 

From sparkly rings & earrings to polka dot thermos and make-up cases to plaid bags and metal link clutches it’s a world of Kate Spade waiting to happen.

The Igloo is only open now through Thursday December 16, 2010 so hurry before it closes.  Hours are 10am-10pm daily.

Seriously watching all the ice skaters lap around the rink and seeing the lit Christmas tree in the distance while I was in Bryant Park took me on a nostalgic trip of imaginary romance.

Dirty & Dandy: Lani Love's Upcoming Events

Fine & Dandy Shop!
Our good friends at Fine & Dandy Shop are having their first ever pop-up shop next weekend at The Blind Barber in East Village. It'll be a great chance to shop for holiday gifts, and there will be lots of great festivities like shoe shines from Angelo's, shave & trim specials from The Blind Barber, $50 portraits from famed fashion illustrator and blogger Richard Haines, and DJ sets from yours truly. I'll be spinning from 4-6PM both days.

Siki Im Pop Up Store

The final installation for Building Fashion showcases menswear designer Siki Im and Leong Leong Architecture. On a side note, Siki actually began his career as an architect before making his way over to fashion as senior designer of Karl Lagerfeld and Helmut Lang.

Ever since Siki's Fall 2010 collection I've been hooked. His attention to detail, minimalistic construction and architectural form are refreshing and inspiring. If you'd like to check out the installation, the pop up store is located in same venue as Richard Chai's Ice Cavern at 504 W 24th Street and is open to the public until November 15, 2010.

The store kind of reminds me of a gigantic half-pipe ramp and is covered in a soy-based foam spray. Visitors are required to take off their shoes upon entering and similar to Chai's installation, nooks and ledges are carved into the foam which house display areas. Clothing is showcased on either end of the ramps (on the underside) which I think is pretty interesting.

I've been out of town this week and haven't had a chance to scope out the installation yet but it looks pretty awesome. Hope you get a chance to check it out before it's gone!

Richard Chai X Snarkitecture Pop-Up Store

Earlier this week I had a chance to check out the latest edition to the Building Fashion series - the Richard Chai x Snarkitecture Pop-Up Store. With a budget of $5,000, a rectangular prism and a lot of foam emerged an ice cave. I'm always amazed when someone creates something so organic out of something that's completely man-made. I've never been inside an ice cave or iceberg but if I did - I'd imagine it to look a lot like this.

The store is set up just like a cavern with lots of different walls and pillars. Chai's clothing was suspended on clothing racks which were embedded in the foam with sections carved out - very seamless.

The carvings were intricate and all done by hand and truthfully, I didn't pay attention to the clothes - I was too busy ogling the giant masses of foam. However, I did note that there was a collaborative T between Chai and Snarkitechture and little carved out alcoves which housed fragrances from Odin and shoes by Heutchy.

I definitely recommend you checking this out if you want to see something completely out of the ordinary! It's only available to the public until Sunday Oct 31, 2010 at 504 W 24th Street.

In case you don't get to check it out, the final installation for the Building Fashion series is with Siki Im and will open Nov 5th, 2010.

My only qualm about this remarkable project is that foam is not the most environmentally friendly of materials - but according to Snarkitecture, the material will be recycled into rigid foam insulation.

Shop Now: Jessica Stam x Rachel Rachel Roy

If you've been dying to get your hands on the latest Rachel Rachel Roy collaboration with guest designer/model Jessica Stam, log on to Facebook! They decided to debut the collection on a special online pop-up shop before launching the collection nationwide on September 10, 2010.

I have to say I was a little bit skeptical of the collection when I first heard about it as every model/celebrity seems to be a designer these days, but with Rachel Roy lending a hand to the technical design elements, I had nothing to worry about! I also gotta hand it to Stam for keeping it tight with great must have items.

I think the pieces that they cranked out are super adorable, especially that little check cardigan! I also am pretty into the skinny button jeans & the bucket bag!

Shopping Report: Zac Posen for Target Pop Up

Erin and our friend Sara at Explosive Kiwi checked out the Zac Posen for Target pop-up shop earlier this morning before work and here's what they reported!

The black tape dress, tiger print dress, chambray dress, yellow raincoat, and black belt are gone - sad because I really had my heart set on the black tape dress and Erin has been dreaming of the tiger print dress.
Remaining items include: black sparkly cocktail dress, jacquard prom dress, bathing suit separates, ruffle prom dresses in red and black, red leather jackets galore, as well as anything tuxedo-related and with that small, flowery print. Zac Posen for Target Pop-Up Store

As the Zac Posen for Target Collection reach nears it's launch date on April 25, 2010, New Yorkers can once again have the opportunity to shop the collection early during a 24 hour Pop-Up shop. Unlike previous pop-up stores run by Target this one will not last days but it will be a 24 hour party featuring performances by The Like and live DJs.

Check out The Like, decked out in the Zac Posen for Target collection in a new video directed by Gia Coppola playing their hit song "Fair Game". Coppola and Posen met years ago when he was first starting out in fashion, while Coppola and members of the girl group have been friends since high school. Inspired by old footage of “The Beatles” in their hotel room, the video shows the girls primping for a show.

Can't wait for this collection to hit stores as it's priced from $17.99 to $199.99. I personally want the gold dress, gold bikini and Tiger Print dress!

Inside: Tria Blue Pop-Up Lounge

On my way home from work I decided to stop by the Tria Blue Pop-Up Lounge and see what it was all about. I had first heard about Tria Beauty a couple years ago when their at Home Laser Removal system came out but unfortunately I had just splurged on a No!No! system so I never got a chance to check out Tria until now. I was greeted by some lovely blue haired ladies who quickly ushered me into a blue oasis from the city rush.

They have lounge area in the front set up for people to have a seat and relax to the sound of an in-house DJ.

Tria recently introduced a Blue Light treatment that claims to clear, treat and nourish skin by eliminating acne causing bacteria before it starts the cycle. After signing in I was quickly ushered to a pod station where I was told about the product and how to use it.

Honestly I am a firm believer that great skin is the key to beauty. And honestly I am pretty lucky that I have been blessed by great genetics and look years younger than I actually am. But I do have have always fought for great skin. Growing up I never really struggled with acne, had a relatively pimple free teenage existence and it wasn't until my mid-twenties that trouble hit me. Regular visits to the Derm plus Retin A/Epiduo keep my skin in check and previously it was the use of tetracycline. However, I often wondered if there was a better option than chemicals or medication. Perhaps this Tria Blue Light Therapy is the answer? Apparently this is the same light that they offer in dermatologists offices but available at your convenience on a daily basis.

The device is actually pretty small and looks like a fancy remote control. It turns on when you press it against your face and there is a timer that shows how long you've been using it and a subtle beep that goes off every 30 seconds as you make circular motions over your face. The tip feels like silicone and glides pretty easily across the surface of your skin. Every 2 1/2 minutes it makes a distinctive noise and within 5 minutes you are done. When I tried it, I could only see a glow over my face and felt gentle warm sensation on the surface of my skin. Apparently you see results within 7 days and women have been returning day after day to see the effectiveness of the product during the pop-up. Actually the staff encouraged me to come back again. I would definitely like to try this again to see if the claims are true.

While after one treatment, I can't say I felt a difference, I did feel pretty relaxed. Maybe it was the music or the comfortable pod chairs? Or maybe it was having someone do my make up? I had a truly relaxing experience and would recommend anyone to stop by.

Bonus, they gift you a free aluminum water bottle and there is a goody table full of blue candy ready for snacking. It's all blue and instantly remindes me of Percy and the Olympians ;)
