Sample Sale Report: Tim Hamilton

Stopped by the Tim Hamilton sale at lunch today - I was seriously debating on whether or not to go since it was so flipping hot outside. Thankfully after trekking cross town, there was no lineup when I got there and only a few shoppers. While there is a bag check sign no one checked my bag which was nice! There was one changing room area near the front and one giant mirrored wall which made it easy to try on items and see how they fit.

The sale was definitely on the orderly side with everything neatly folded and displayed. Some of the items were still wrapped in packaging but shoppers are free to open them up to check out the items. Sizing ended up being pretty random from why I could see and ranged from S-XL depending on the item. For the newer merch, there were only one or two of any given style which again ranged in sizing.

Womenwear prices are pictured above left - there were only a few racks of womenswear with the bulk being menswear (finally!). Pricing for men varied - Tim Hamilton's Redux line was definitely more affordable than the previous sale I went to which was nice (polo's and crewnecks were $30, sweatshirts $50 and jeans/chinos $35. His collection pieces mostly had prices marked on tags. Blazers were around $200, sweaters $200 and outerwear $200-$350. I didn't pay too much attention to the bulkier items since it was so bloody hot and I could barely think straight.
There were also some bargain boxes - the $25 box was mostly T's while the $50 box had a great cream colored knitted cardigan. There was also a lone rack of shirts for $30 which was a steal.

There were a couple of racks of pants for men - one was $75 and the other $50

There was one table which housed pieces from the 2011 Spring Redux collection and was a bit more in terms of pricing - but not significantly. One of my favorite pieces was this color blocked polo which was a bit too big on me so I had to pass.

There were a couple of racks of shoes which ranged from $60 for sandals to $125 for boots. The sales people mentioned that you would get a better deal if you bought more than one pair of shoes.

I ended up grabbing this paneled T for $35 and a super light weight mini check shirt for $60. I also got an extra discount for paying in cash so if you have it handy I'm sure they will give you a better deal.

I'm seriously debating on going back tomorrow since a sales associated mentioned to me that prices will go down - but its supposed to hit 100 degrees tomorrow so now I'm debating on just hibernating anywhere where the AC is blasting. If you're interested in checking out this sale, it runs from now until Saturday.

Tim Hamilton x Bergdorf Goodman

Photo from Tim Hamilton's fall 2010/2011 line

After checking out Hamilton's presentation last fashion week and his sample sale - I'm definitely a fan.

According to WWD, Tim Hamilton will be launching a new collaborative line with high end retailer, Bergdorf Goodman. Hamilton's take on the line involves "bringing in some fundamental pieces that cover key product classes but are still forward and modern in spirit".

Construction, quality, simplicity and detailing are what Hamilton has brought to the table with this collaboration. Modern basics including chinos, V-neck sweaters and the perfect polo are all staples that the line will carry. The pieces will retail for approximately 30% below Hamilton's collection line with polo's coming in around $195-$250, chinos $250-$295, shirts $225, hoodies $295, cardigans $325 and blazers $595.

Tim Hamilton Sample Sale

Today was the first official day of the Tim Hamilton Sample Sale in Chelsea. I made my way over to the West side of town amongst the art galleries in a large bright space the Tim Hamilton Sample Sale was taking place. It was a very calm and relaxing shopping experience. Although some items (the one-of-a-kind) were still being ticketed, everything is well organized and easy to see.

There is a bag check at the front, shoes upon entering the first room and the main clothing area is in the back. There are 3 change rooms available for try-ons. The environment of the sale was very chill and very calm. Staffers are friendly but pretty laid back answering any questions in detail but never hovering or making you feel uncomfortable.Women’s merch only comprised about 15% of the sale and was primarily current season/runway merch and one-off pieces.

There were 2 racks of women’s merch in a variety of styles ranging from tops for about $40-95 – including a pretty amazing angle seam body suit for $60, red organza button down tops for $60, cowl neck tunic $40. I spotted great novelty items like a high waisted cage skirt for $125 and organza harem pants for $100.

For someone willing to put in a little work, there was a fantastic very distinctive unfinished trench for $195 that is sans lining – if I was a bit taller I might have considered turning this into a project!

An amazing sheer cowl neck shirt ran $300.

Leather jacket was around $400, while a fabulous shiny trench on the wall was going for $600. The prices maxed out at $750-850 for architectural pony hair outerwear. For women’s wear samples are primarily sample/runway sizing – about a size 2-4.

This is a great sale for the Fellas! With about 7 racks of men’s merch and a table full of goodies, there is plenty to choose from. Much of the merchandise is from the runway and never went into production making it an Tim Hamilton original – this was available in only men’s sample size 40/32.

One-of-a-kind Swarovski crystal jackets were about $750 while a great graphic knit grandpa cardigan was $150. As for the tables, most of the merch is available in a full size range. Redux button-up shirts were priced at $95.

Men’s sweaters yielded some great bargains with cashmere v-neck basic sweaters in a waffle knit starting at $50 and maxing out at $400. I was also a fan of these cropped tuxedo pants but they were the only pair at the sale.

A couple of the most popular items included henley’s for $100 and ruched front hoodies for $75-125. The hoodies had a great weight to them and a really unique slight metallic sheen. The black cotton jacket above was quite amazing – it has a piece that can snap on in different ways and creating at least 3 slightly different looks.

As for general accessories there were some $25 scarves and $50 beach shawls. For the shoes, I only noticed women’s size 40 available and men’s 46 available. Boots/Italian shoes are $275, customized Docs are $150, Sandals $100 and Women’s Shoes are $350.

If you are looking for unique, high quality and detail oriented menswear this is truly the sale for you. Seriously great stand out pieces that will take your wardrobe to the next level.

Ladies, if you are sample size and looking for a unique one-of-a-kind piece, there are certainly some gems to be found although it is a fairly small selection. Fun to check out while you're bringing your fella for a style upgrade or if you're in the area.

NYFW Spring 2011: Tim Hamilton

A couple days ago I had the chance to stop by Tim Hamilton's Redux Presentation which also featured the debut of Fenton/Fallon's men's accessories (mentioned in a previous post). The atmosphere was casual and relaxed with the models situated in the center of the room chilling out, having a few drinks and chatting it up with those around them.
It was a great way to showcase the collection and allowed you to take a look at each of the pieces at your own pace which was definitely nice.

The collection had a bit of a grunge vibe to it but the pieces still looked polished. To edge out the looks, most of the outfits were paired with fitted trousers tucked into lace-up combat boots. The collection housed a few jersey tops, sleeveless button up shirts, the occasional color blocked paneled piece and some great wool blazers that would be perfect for any occasion.

Tunics were also to be found in a few shades which I'm not a fan of personally. Conceptually I can see it working but I just don't envisage this ever catching on for the majority of guys.

Personally - while I thought that most of the pieces were wearable, I took a definite liking to the outerwear and blazers Hamilton presented. The army green color on the trench was a great choice for updating a classic coat while still maintaining neutrality. My favorite piece was the navy one button blazer which looked amazing and would be perfect for both the spring and fall. Definitely one of the most versatile pieces in the collection.

The Accessories:

Most of the models were found sporting a enamel cuffs in black and white which housed the nicknames of the models wearing them which added a personal touch.
My favorite of the accessory pieces was a bracelet constructed of a chain bound in colored leather. While these items were designed exclusively for Hamilton's presentation - I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the rest of the collection once it becomes available.
