I stopped by the Club Monaco Sample Sale last night and as always it's a popular one. The line creeped down the 36th Street and was about 40 people long and growing when I got on the scene. Fortunately things moved rather quickly and I managed to get inside in the last 15 minutes of the sale. As per usual at the Clothingline sales, you have to check your coat and any large bags. I also didn't see fitting rooms available to use at this sale or mirrors, so bring a friend.

As for womenswear prices have increased since previous Club Monaco sales but is still affordable with a range of $10 for a basic tee/tank-$60 for a blazer, $95 for outerwear and $109 for real fur/suede or leather. While unlike previous sample sales, this time around there is not just "sample size", which in the Club Monaco world is a size 6. However smaller sizes are hard to come by. Most of the super cute skirts and pieces that I looked at were between a size 8-12 or a Large.

Sample Sale Report: Club Monaco

Stopped by the Club Monaco sale today after hitting up the YSL sale down the street (don't bother going for menswear).  Pricing is a bit higher than previous sales held at the Club Monaco office but still pretty good overall.  Menswear starts at just $10 for tops, $20 for shirts, $25 for sweaters,  $50 for cashmere and maxes out at $65 for leather/suede (which by the way, I didn't see any of).  For pricing charts, scroll down to the very bottom.  Items are organized by type (i.e. pants, tops, shorts, etc.) but digging is still very much required at this sale.  As with all Club Monaco sales, there are actual samples up for grabs and lots of damages thrown in the mix so make sure you check your items thoroughly before paying!

Sample Sale Report: Club Monaco

I stopped by the Club Monaco sample yesterday and although there was a line of 30 people gathered outside the building on the sidewalk the security guard kept things moving letting people in 5 at a time and I was inside in under 10 minutes.  As per the usual Clothingline sample sale, there is coat check for coats and large bags but I was allowed to keep my small purse to shop.  Unlike other Clothingline sales there are no fitting rooms and not a single mirror to be seen.  This sale requires a friend with a discerning eye and for you to know your size at Club Monaco.  Just about everything is sample size which means a size 6 or medium for women and a size 32 or medium in mens.  I did manage to find a couple items in size small but those are few and far between.

Shop Bop x Club Monaco Launch Party and Lookbook

Growing up in Toronto, Club Monaco was always a MUST in my wardrobe.  Since I was the tender age of 10 and my mom bought matching black & white shirts for my brother and me, it’s been a brand to build my wardrobe on.  Options were limited for high quality, wallet friendly and design oriented brands and while most of Toronto was embracing Banana Republic, I firmly stood by Club Monaco over the years.  Since moving to NYC, I was surprised to learn that Club Monaco is not the wide spread brand it was in my hometown.  I’ve worn some of my old skirts from Club Monaco and been complimented by multiple designers who mistook my skirt for an uber designer label.  I always go to Club Monaco when I am north of the border, but while I am here I do a lot of my shopping online or at sample sales.

Fast forward to present times, Shopbop was actually one of the first websites that started my online shopping obsession.  My co-worker introduced me a little over 4 years ago - the selection of merchandise, ease of site navigation and multiple views of product had me hooked.

Today I had the chance to celebrate the two loves and wardrobe pillars come together with the launch of Club Monaco’s e-commerce effort exclusively on Shopbop.  Fashion director Kate Ciepluch personally selected 30 pieces that range in price from $24 for knee high socks to $1100 for a genuine shearling bomber.  KC tells me that she too grew up with Club Monaco and always appreciated the brand.  She curated the brand to focus on wear-to-work pieces and great outerwear.  The trend focus about this season’s hottest color, Camel.

Right now accessories are limited to a few great purses, hats and scarves but plans are in work for an expansion into a fuller assortment in future deliveries.

I had fun playing Dress-up with a few of the pieces that are a part of the collection with KC’s encouragement I picked out a glen check blazer, satchel and fedora to try on for size, all super cute!  But at the end of the day I am particularly adoring the cropped sleeve large plaid Hannah Coat!  Everything will be available for purchase on Shopbop today, so wallet’s beware!

Sample Sale Report: Club Monaco

A friend was visiting from out of town this week and I unexpectedly ended up dropping by the Club Monaco sample sale earlier today. I got there around 2:30pm and had to wait about 20 minutes in line before entering the sale. The sale is in a single room with menswear on the right side and women's gear on the left. The sale wasn't overly packed and there was plenty of room to peruse the merchandise without getting in someone's way.

The best part about this sale was that nothing was over $20 with the majority of items coming in below $10! Pants and sweaters are $10, blazers/jackets are $15 and leather coats/large leather bags will set you back a whopping $20.

Accessories were a steal - scarves, gloves, ties, small leather belts, bracelets, rings, broaches and hats were only $2 a pop. There are no change rooms or mirrors at the sale so your best bet is to go with a friend who can let you know how things fit - or you can guesstimate. The only thing I would note is to look carefully at whatever you're picking out. Quite a few of the items were either damaged or had fabric swatches removed on the hemline or back of the item.

In terms of sizing, for menswear - about 95% of the tops were medium and I only saw size 32 for pants. I didn't get a great look at the women's merchandise due to time constraints but I think most of what I saw was size 6 with some size 4 scattered in the mix.

If I knew beforehand I was going to hit up the sale I would have brought my camera! I ended up taking some pics afterward so here's some of the stuff I grabbed.

So I don't usually wear things the same day as I buy them but everything I bought from the Club Monaco Sample Sale worked into my look today with ease! I picked up this wool boyfriend jacket with the satin collar for $20 and this multi crystal (acrylic) stone necklace for $10! Pretty sweet but according to a tipster they marked prices down even further today to starting at $2 an item...so if you can, go tomorrow morning! I recommend getting there at like a bit early to ensure you get in and out. Actually not pictured I bought a scarf for $10 too but no point in overloading :)

PS. I just got to try this nail polish from the new OPI Hong Kong Collection on last night and at first I thought it might be a weird color that's a bit dull looking but the more I look at it the more I like it. It's one of those rich peacock shades of blue that actually makes the perfect transitional color for someone who loves those dark deep rich navy's and purple tones but wants something a bit brighter for spring that's not too bright.

UPDATE: I went by the sale this morning and I was the first one there! YES!!! actually in all my sample sale shopping that's never happened before :) Anyways I was a bit disappointed as I didn't see any of those small sizes that people had previously mentioned. Most everything is sample size meaning a size 6 or 8 for women and a S or M for men. Yes, I was shopping the men's section but didn't find any cozy grandpa style cardigans for myself.

Thanks to a reader who kindly commented we do know that they slashed prices further today to starting from $2 and item! To see what I bought I actually ended up wearing it today :) To note, no fitting room and no mirrors! You are blind guessing so it's a bit of a challenge but prices are great. Make sure you thoroughly check everything as things have some weird holes. Most of the items are one offs and it's hard to see what's all there as it's mostly folded on tables and in boxes and on very very crammed racks. Lots of items to sort through to find your winners. As previously mentioned the sale wasn't too crowded and kept to under 30 pple at a time.

So the truth is my friend Tom told me about this sale about a week ago but I almost forgot about it until early this morning. I actually hauled my way over to the way west side first thing this morning but by the time I got there, the massive line that did not move had me waiting for 30 minutes only to move about 10 feet so I had to leave and get to the office.

I did manage to get the scoop from some of the sale goers:
There is quite a lot of merch but there is also alot of damaged goods too and they are thrown into boxes so digging is required. However, everything is really well priced with shorts and shirts from $5 to 10. Dresses for $15. Belts and Jewelry from $5. Everyone I saw leaving seemed to have paper bags with multiple items. Be warned though the line is slow and they apparently only let about 30 people into the sale at a time so although as a shopper I'm sure it controls chaos it holds up a lot of people too. There are some small sizes available in 2s? Not sure about other sizes but apparently normally what they have is mediums. One girl shared she bought her whole summer wardrobe for $60 including 2 shorts, 2 shirts, 1 dress and some other accessories!

I may try again tomorrow...but not sure if I have it in me to get up and wait again.

I was looking at the Club Monaco accessories page when glaring off it comes this heavily inspired by Yves Saint Laurent belt. Yes, the YSL Cage belt and shoes had legions of fans drooling when it came out at the beginning of the year, but Club Monaco did you think that we wouldn't notice your obvious inspiration?

Differences to note, the Club Monaco Version is not Patent, features grommets to lace up and is a shorter 2 tiers. They also perhaps tried to fool us by photographing with the ties up?

The YSL Cage belt is a super shiny patent leather, a more statement making 3 tiers and has longer ties and features metal hook fasteners to lace up the belt.

Does anyone know how much the Club Monaco version is retailing for but the YSL version is now on sale on Net-a-Porter for $198.

Sample Sale Report: Lee Angel

Stopped by the Lee Angel Sale on Friday with low expectations. The flyer looked less than appealing, but I got word that they were a jewelry vendor for many major companies including J.Crew, Banana Republic, Club Monaco, French Connection, BCBG, Ann Taylor and more. Also, I heard that they had $5 bins so I thought it was worth checking out as I love junk jewelry.

When I got there it was a large fairly well lit room with bins upon bins of merch! In fact everything in the entire room was $5! It was a bit of a time consuming sale because I had to dig through bins that were mixed pieces all wrapped up in plastic baggies that obstructed the view of the jewelry but it was definitely worth the trouble. While some pieces weren't really my taste I felt like the selection was so broad I'm sure there's something for everyone.

There was another little adjoining room that was much smaller and also filled with bins, but this merch was actually under the "Lee Angel" name. It was generally higher quality and more intricate merch and the prices definitely reflected that. Prices in this room ranged from $20-300. Initial pendants and some rings were around $20.

The cuff bracelet above I was sort of in love with but with a $150 price tag, I couldn't quite justify it. But it was blingtastic and so rocker girl chic.

Pieces that I picked up for $5! I re-bought a French Connection necklace that I already own that I love to death but has started loosing stones. At this price, it's cheaper than buying extra stones!

Btw I don't have my ears pierced but I did pick up a cute pair of earrings for my friend Shelly.

This is one I wouldn't miss if you're in need of some cheap baubles to polish your look. Be warned it's a bit time consuming! I spent an hour there! There are few mirrors to check out how things look. Also, you should use one of the trays they have available to carry your finds while browsing.
