Funktional Fall 2011 Lookbook

Since first catching LA based designer Jennifer Park’s Funktional line in 2009, Lani and I quickly became fans of the modern luxurious feeling line with the very accessible price points.

For Fall 2011 the collection had a 70s glam meets 90s cleaned up grunge look. The flowing long skirts, draped silk blouses alongside the color palette's of burnt oranges and turquoise are definitely 70s.   While the cozy heather knits, layered looks and strong shoulder makes me think early 90s.

I’m personally a fan of pretty much every look on page 3, even the power-shoulder working woman look!I had the opportunity to see many of these pieces in person and feel the high quality fabrics and check out the construction firsthand.  Here are some detail shots of some of my favorite pieces.

As I’m sure you’ve realized by now I’m such a  fan of silky tops and pants and the Funktional collection had a great variety of them.  From roll sleeve casual blouses to silk tees and geometric cutout/lace blouses into wrap blouses.  I personally was a huge fan of the wrap blouses in both the plaid and the silk versions.  It has such a unique shape and casual easy feel to it.

In the bottoms, I was drawn to the geometric knit maxi skirt and the beetle printed pants.  They were so visually stimulating without being overwhelming.  Also, had to admire another great pair of silky pants.

The dresses had so many great unique details like inset lace or back cutout panel that I would never have noticed from just looking at the lookbook.

I really loved the cozier pieces for Fall, especially the draped jackets and fur coat. The fur was amazingly soft and had a really unique coloration.  I also was drawn to items like the little cardigan with elbow patches and the jacket on the bottom right that felt like wrapping your favorite blanket around yourself.

Dupli-CAUGHT: Funktional vs. Blaque Label

Remember this dress from last fall? It's my coveted Funktional cage dress. I bought mine last fall, and since then Funktional has done a few twists on successful dress - one shoulder, satin, blue.

And now someone else has jumped on the cage dress. While browsing the sale pages of KarmaLoop, I came across this copy from Blaque Label. It's extremely similar. The most notable difference is the exposed zipper in the back that runs from top to bottom, ick!

Blaque Label also made a shirt version as seen below, but I like Funktional's cage top better for it's relaxed body which would pair nicely with skinny jeans.

I know a lot of ladies were bummed when the Funktional dress sold out, so perhaps this could be a solution. Personally, I don't think I could do it. I know who made the original; she's a young designer. And did I mention the tacky exposed zipper?

Menswear Note from Jeff:

If your a guy looking to sport the caged look - Adidas has you covered. Jeremy Scott for Adidas came out with a caged track jacket for those looking for a bit a flair for their workout gear. It's not really a practical piece for working out but since we're on the topic of cages I thought why not. I'm not crazy about the laces running down the back but to each his own.

Deal of the Day: Funktional One Shoulder Cage Dress

This dress is similar to the original Funktional cage dress, which I bought almost a year ago, except that it is a one shoulder piece and shiny rather than matte. I love my Funktional dress. My only complaint is that being 3-dimensional, it takes up a bit of closet space.

This hot little black dress usually retails for $118, but it is now half off at revolveclothing.com, a steal at $59. Sizes are limited, so hurry.

Sample Sale Report: Oak NYC & Friends

Stopped by the Oak NYC sale last night and was greeted by a bit of chaos. There were plenty of shoppers and you could tell from the scene that there had been plenty throughout the day. Things were a bit ravaged but that is to be expected with this sale that stocked some favorite brands of the downtown set.

To note there is no change room so men & women alike were just trying on things underneath their clothes or in whatever free crevice they could find behind a rack. No mirrors either. On the plus side, there is plenty of merch and checking out was a breeze! This sale is Cash ONLY so hit up an ATM on your way down.

Womenswear:
LnA tees were plentiful and about $20 a pop. LnA liquid leggings for $30.
Spotted some OAK one piece swimsuits with mesh panels for $40
Some zip front liquid spandex bodysuits were $30

Plenty of affordable shoes for prices as low as $5! Plenty of $10 pointy toe lace ups. I found myself wishing I was a size 6 1/2 or 8 1/2 as that's the size range that seemed to be the most plentiful. If you are a size 5 like me, you're out of luck the smallest shoe I spotted was a size 5 1/2. Adorable LD Tuttle buckle wedges were still $260. A couple pairs of Camilla Skovgaards were available in size 38 for $200. Ash booties for $80. Plenty of styles for $100 or under!

I snagged up these paneled leggings from LnA for $30. I've been wanting panelled leggings ever since I saw the Katie Gallagher presentation! Oak has some of their housebrand styles that are a bit closer but, also regular price at $178!

iLike: Funktional Zip Prairie Cutout Dress

Awhile back when Erin and I had the chance to preview Funktional's upcoming collection, and I fell in love with the silk prairie dress. It was so feminine with the open back and flowly fabric, but the black zipper and cutout shoulders made this dress fresh and edgey.
And now, the dress is now available for purchase! You can find it at Revolve Clothing and Nasty Gal for $118.

Preview: Funktional Clothing Fall 2010

A couple weeks ago Erin and I previewed the fall collection from Sugar Rock Catwalk favorite, Funktional. As with the past two seasons, Funktional's fall 2010 is on trend and well made at an affordable price point!
This collection is full of useful, versatile pieces. Our favorites include the military anorak and flannel dress; both would be great for layering in the fall.


Funktional is perfect great for finding those relaxed, downtown cool pieces. Think flowly, drapey and voluminous tops and lots of cut outs. Almost all of our favorite pieces from Funktional fall 2010 have sexy scoops.

Erin's favorite piece from the collection was this leather jacket. It's a shame we didn't have better lighting or a better camera to highlight the fabulous draping and panels. This is another really versatile piece; it looks great opened and closed.

My favorite "must-have" piece that we previewed was actually from Funktional's summer 2010 collection. I loved this floral dress because it's unlike anything else in my wardrobe. It's pretty feminine with the open back and flowly fabric, but the black zipper and cutout shoulders make this dress fresh and edgey.

As mentioned before, we're both huge fans of Funktional. Good design, quality construction and affordable price point, what's not to love?
