NYC Sample Sales: April 7-13, 2014

NYFW Fall 2014: Marissa Webb

I kicked off my fashion week this year at the Marissa Webb show. The designer has been on the radar as one to watch for a number of seasons. This season the designer really found her sweet spot in sexy tomboy-ish clothing that is perfect for day-to-day life - never too sweet, with just the right amount of attitude to turn heads. The city girl who always seems to look pulled together even when she has just woken up and is on-the-go.

The beauty exemplified attitude the with messy rolled just-out-of-bed hair or wispy high buns contrasted with classic cat eyes, soft pink lips and radiant skin in full force.

The color palette was broken up into groupings monochromatic to start, introduction of navy and oxford blue, followed by smoldering purple, dusty pinks and finishing off with bold red. While black, grey and white dominated the color groupings made for a powerful impression. Plaid, tweed, leather, fur and abstract watercolor florals that added texture and dimension to the looks.

Sample Sale Report: Marissa Webb

***UPDATE**** - Prices have been reduced significantly and most items are now under $100!  Sequin tops and shorts are $50, blouses are $75-$98, dresses are $98, most shoes are $75 (),  pants $25-$50, and samples are just $15-$40.  Tomorrow is the last day of the sale so time to get your shop on!  Marissa and her team are all super sweet and helpful so be sure to stop by!

I had a chance to stop by the Marissa Webb sample sale tonight in her studio. The brand's first ever sample sale featured shoes to short to sequin skirts and Moto pants. The designer previously helmed the reins of J.Crew womenswear for 10 years before striking off on her own and debuting her line to much anticipation in Spring 2013. At the sample sale you'll find feminine pieces in brightly colored clothes that walk the line soft and feminine and a hard/edged borrowed from the boys attitude.

I ran by the sale after work but could only spend a few minutes before I had to run. The scene was very chill as friends slowly rolled in after work and enjoyed a drink while shopping the collection. 

Prices at the sale are very reasonable and top out at $478 for a leather jacket but start as low as $15 for tissue tees. The sale is well lit and organized by style with rings on each rack to differentiate sizes. The tropical tie dye printed shorts were just $50, while the draped scarf tunic version was $175. The multi-color moto denim shown above were $75 a pop.

Cropped leather pants were a steal at just $100. Leather moto style vest was $200 while the canvas version was $100. A softly pleated drop waist dress in white voile was $200.

As for shoes, strappy flats were just $75 while peep toe heels with ankle straps were $125. From neon to lavender, to red, the colors are sure to get noticed.

With most prices under $200 this is a sale worth shopping. Prices are well below what you would find them at retail for. I hope that I'll have time to swing back later this week!

NYFW Fall 2013: Marissa Webb

After bracing through Nemo in the early hours of the morning - I made my way to Lincoln Center to catch the Marissa Webb presentation.  This is her second showing at NYFW since parting ways with J. Crew - and she definitely holds her own.  Webb's hard versus soft and masculine versus feminine concepts are showcased throughout the collection along with the juxtaposition of rich textures and fabrications.
