Sale Report: Space.NK

So I stopped by Space.NK in Soho this afternoon and things were even less than I expected! Seriously I'm not usually one to be shocked by low prices but a sale like this does not happen everyday! I went because I wanted to re-stock on some lotion, but instead was greated by a plethora of cosmetics galore.

So the story is that Space.NK will no longer be carrying the Sonia Kashuk line so even though there is nothing wrong with the make up they have stock piles to get rid of. Therefore the entire range is on sale for $2-3. But right now they are discounting all sale merch further by 50%! So eyeshadows, lip glosses (that have lip liners built into the cap!), lipsticks, mineral makeup, bronzers, blushes, concealers and powder can be yours for a mere $1-$1.50 each! This range can be found on Target.com for $7-15...so that's 85-90% off :)

In addition, I found some 100% natural brand Sheerin O'kho Paris skin care line that normally sells for $100+ now for 75% of + 50% off. Allowing me to purchase some face creams specially targeted for sensitive city skin in both Winter & Summer formulas for $13.50 each.

The grand total of all my goodies pictured above including taxes? $56.07 for 2 facial creams, 1 mask, 1 bronzer, 1 translucent powder, 4 eyeshadow duos, 2 lipliners, 2 lipglosses, 1 mineral makeup set and 1 concealer palatte.

If you need cosmetics, Run! I saw a makeup artist stockpiling while I was there but there is plenty to go around. Other than the Sonia Kashuk and Sheerin O'kho, everything else seemed to be Space.NK gift sets at deep discounts.

iWant. I Need: Long Jersey Skirt

Rick Owens Lilies Jersey fishtail skirt
Rick Owens Right, Black Market Baby Left
I've been noticing the past few seasons on the runway the advent of a skirt shape that has quietly snuck it's way into my personal must-have list. It's nothing as gimmicky as bubbles, or peplums but the long jersey skirt is definitely a new classic. You may have seen this sort of skirt shape on the Olsens (particularly Mary-Kate) but I'm hoping it'll be coming to my closet soon.

The recent Net-a-Porter dedicated email to Rick Owens reminded me of this need. And although I love, $550 is out of my budget. But if you can afford to splurge on the Rick Owens version, feel better as the the skirt doubles as a flattering tube dress!

Fortunately a bit of googling led me to discover Canadian (Yay!) designer Audrey Cantwell and her line Salem which she sells on her Etsy shop Black Market Baby. The Salem version of the long jersey skirt definitely runs in the same vein as the Rick Owens version, but comes at a fraction of the price at a mere $60. While you're there, check out the rest of her shop for simple smoking hot slightly gothic pieces with attitude and great prices.

Trend Confirmation: Grey Hair Reality

Photo: BAUER-GRIFFIN via Styelist.com
A couple days ago, I wrote about Grey hair as a rising trend on the couture scene and I asked the question, would you wear gray hair. Well turns out my question is no longer a question but a reality. Style icon Kate Moss has picked up on the trend and has been seen rocking gray streaks at her recent Kate Moss for Longchamp launch party. What glossy Mossy does, the world watches. Who will be sporting grays next?

Lani Love in L Magazine

Do you see me? Bottom left hand corner.

Yesterday L Magazine published a profile on me, and it totally made my day. The title of the profile was "You should dress like: Lani." So cute! I'm totally flattered and honored! And I can't believe it. Is my face really on the L Magazine homepage right now?
I'm sure at least a few of you are wondering how it came about. A couple months ago, a friend from college shared a link to Sugar Rock Catwalk with a photographer at L Magazine, and he and his boss came over to my apartment to do a little shoot! Funny story about the shoot, they originally wanted to take some pictures of me in my room, but my room is so small there's no way we could all fit. That's New York living for you.

We did the shoot on my rooftop, and it was a surprisingly warm winter day. It was nice and sunny out, almost too sunny. It was really hard to keep my eyes open, but I prefer squinting to freezing.

You can check out the full feature and more photos at thelmagazine.com.

Now Playing: I Blame Coco

I'm not one to follow so-called "It Girls", but if I had to guess who's next, I'd say Coco Stumner. Her casual cool style is somewhere between Alexa Chung and Alison Mosshart of The Kills, and she's actually talented! I've been listening to her music lately, and I'm in love with her.
She's only 20 years old, but her voice is so deep and husky in a good way. Her lyrics are pretty great too; she writes the cutest lines about crushes and unrequited love. She has a single out and a few songs floating around on the web from earlier days. My personal favorite is "Never Be", which you can download from awmusic.ca.

If you think she looks familiar, perhaps you've seen her in a Burberry ad or a family photo with Sting. Yes, she's Sting's daugher.

Check out the video for "I Blame Coco", her first single featuring Robyn. I'm absolutely in love with the vidoe; I might even say that I love it more than the song. I love the styling, muted colors and mix of textures.

And if you're not already in love with her, one more video. She's so cute and girl crush worthy!

Trend Watch: Red Hot Shoes

Pre-Spring 2010 brings footwear back to center stage with the bold use of ruby red. From subtle touches at Prada and Balenciaga to classic patent pumps at Lanvin, to Over the knee Satin boots at Chanel red shoes will definitely pop whatever you're wearing. For extra red hot flair do as they do at Valentino & Celine and go for red legs too. Or if you're feeling rebellious, pair with bright primary tights like at Balenciaga. One thing is for certain, it's about red, it's about shine and it's gotta be on your feet!

Would You Wear: Grey Hair?

Sometimes on the runways there are some outrageous trends that I don't quite understand. Perhaps this one is slightly counter-intuitive and that's why I kind of like it! I mean in an industry that always embraces youth, seeing young girls with grey hair is kind of fun. Both Dior and Chanel Couture Spring 2010 had variations of the look. At Dior Couture the look was all vamp paired with red lips and cat eyeliner. At Chanel, it was more going hand in hand with the touch of silver seen throughout the collection and it ended up looking more cutesy than anything else. For me it evokes a sort of fantasy tale...a bit of Rogue in X-men or what I picture Annabeth in Percy & the Olympians to look like after book 3 (recent guilty pleasure!)

Time perhaps to embrace those streaks? Or do you think this one is too costumey to pull off?

Uniqlo Heattech Review

Uniqlo Heattech works. I’ve tried thermals and undershirts from just about every brand, and Uniqlo’s Heattech is definitely my favorite! I have a couple Heattech shirts, a turtle neck and scoop neck, and they both keep me so warm. My other thermals keep me warm, but I always feel kind of uncomfortable in them because they're too thick or they don't allow my skin to breathe. Uniqlo's fabric, on the otherhand, is incredibly soft, light and breathable, and I think the anti-static and shape retaining claims are true too. I've washed each shirt in the machine a few times, and they've held up fine.

I wore my Heattech scoop neck out dancing over the weekend, and while I was really hot, I didn't feel super suffocated or sticky.

If you still need some winter basics, I would recommend stopping by Uniqlo soon because they're having a sale right now on all Heattech - just $9.99 for camis, tanks, long sleeves, short and long bottoms. Some colors and sizes are starting to run out, but they still have a lot of inventory with the exception of full-length leggings. They sold out of almost every size very early in the season, so the only leggings they have left are black size medium. Bummer...! I really wish I had a pair of them right now. Oh well, lesson learned for next season.

To Buy or Not to Buy?

Obsessed with wacky accessories and novelty items, I've been wanting a pair of bunny ears for awhile. No, not Playboy style. I talking about the bunny ears à la Louis Vuitton's fall 2009 show.
The headband at the top is from Topshop, but they unfortunately sold out. I hesitated to buy them because they were $36 for something kind of ridiculous, and now they're gone.

I've done a bit of searching for other options under $50, and the only ones I've come across are these velvet ones from Asos. At $17, they're affordable, but they look too much like cat ears for my liking and I'd prefer something lighter like a satin or lace.
So now I guess the question becomes "To DIY or not to DIY?" Perhaps Erin and I can craft up a little something. If we do, we promise to post a tutorial.

Get Rodarte's Spidery Knits for Cheap?

Dear Readers,

I just saw a comment from one of you last night that made me wonder if there was any truth to this. I'm sure that many of you have admired Rodarte's spidery knits. And yes, there have been plenty of imitators and plenty of DIY's that have popped up the last few months. But for those of us who lack in complex knitting skills, have you wondered if it was possible to find Rodarte for less. Yes, there are the Rodarte for Target collection, but really the knit cardigans have a different feel. If anyone can confirm this is true and provide factory info, that would be lovely!

xo,
Erin

Reader Comment:
PS. if you live in LA you can go to the exact same factory that Rodarte uses to make its knits and create your own for about $300 instead of $2000 +

SAG 2010 Best Dressed: Winners & Losers

All photos courtesy of WWD

I'm not one for awards ceremonies normally but it's a great excuse to hang out and weigh in all the fashion's that be. This time around the ever lovely Jordana from Clutch 22 invited a group of super sweet and fun ladies to join in the fun at the Roger Smith Hotel's penthouse.

My personal style winners for the night have got to be Kate Hudson and Anna Paquin. Kate Hudson in Pucci and Cartier, looks every bit as a starlet should, radiant, classy but also very sexy with the combination of the high neckline and plunging back. This dress really suprised me that it was Pucci because it was absent of the signature prints that I've come to associate with the brand. Anna Paquin chose to wear Alexander McQueen and we all agreed that she looked fabulous! The dress totally flattered her body and I thought the shoes she chose were just the right balance.
I also thought that Christina Applegate and Kyra Sedgewick both looked great! Although their outfits are nothing groundbreaking, they look beautiful and classic with great hair and makeup.
Christina Applegate is in Roberto Cavalli and Lorraine Schwartz ta Ferretti and Kwiat. Kyra Sedgwick wore Vera Wang and Fred Leighton.

Looks I'm torn on? I love these ladies, so I wish they picked better dresses. Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen and Bochic looks tall and statuesque, but something is not right in the proportions. Perhaps it's the sleeves + strong shoulders or the length, but this was her night and she could have looked much more beautiful. Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhullier and Neil Lane is and example of when I become unsure whether she is wearing the dress or the dress is wearing her. The quirky cut was interesting but I fear it overwhelms Drew's frame and her bouffant hairdo is not really helping the matter.

Joan Allen in Michael Kors and Lost Art jewelry, looks lost in a seaweed tangle that I suppose is her attempt at statement jewelry. Meanwhile, Diane Kruger in Jason Wu and Harry Winston usually gets it right, but I don't think this mustard color did anything for her skintone.

Carey Mulligan in Lanvin and Fred Leighton looks a bit unfortunate as she is an adorable and charming actress but completely overwhelmed in this ill fitting gown. Especially when she walked the taffeta would balloon into looking like a red paper bag attacked her. Cheryl Hines in Gustavo Cadile and Raju Rasiah of Beverly Hills jewelry attempt at asymmetric looked a bit sloppy and like the dress did not want to stay on her body.

Finally, the worst look of the night? Surprisingly came from a man with a successful fashion brand! Justin Timberlake in Dolce and Gabanna simply was trying too hard to be unique. His denim shirt with the Tuxedo just doesn't make sense and leaves him looking like he lost his way from the farm.

Now Wearing...

I've been back and forth between Toronto and NYC a lot the past few weeks. I'm glad to say I'm finally back in New York :) Along the way I went to a lovely wedding (congrats E & W) wearing one of my fave dresses, out for a 2nd wearing...this time I changed up the necklace and winterized myself with the addition of boots. Turns out there was almost no need as the weather in Toronto was freakishly warm. I tried to make little braids in my hair.
