Macy*s x Kinder Aggugini

A look from Kinder Aggugini

Photos of Kinder Aggugini for macy*s courtesy of WWD

So I’ve been hearing about Macy*s Impulse on and off since last year.  It was an initiative launched by Macy*s to help capture the 30 and under fashion loving crowd.  It is all about contemporary, affordable fashion that will  be available in 220 select Macy*s stores nationwide with plans to roll out eventually to 400 stores.  Today while I was passing through West 4th Street Station, I noticed a barrage of poster’s advertising the initiative featuring some clothing that I found to be quite adorable.

Macy*s in addition to exclusives like the Rachel Rachel Roy collection is now planning to enter the designer collaboration arena, joining the ranks of H&M and Target.  First up at bat is London based designer Kinder Aggugini whose signature collection is self described as "Coco Chanel marries Sid Vicious".  The Rock’n’Roll inspired collection will retail from $50 to $300 and will include leather jackets, kimono dresses and silk shorts.  The collection will hit stores and Macys.com on February 15, 2011. Later collaborations in works include one with The Kaiser himself, Mr. Karl Lagerfeld.  Looks like it’s time for me to add Macy*s to my regular shopping itinerary.  What do you think of the looks for Macy*s by Kinder Aggugini?

Have Fashion's Powerful at Your Fingertips

The online consignment shop Tra Tutti that brought to us Karl Lagermouse (and other designer mice) has now launched Karl Lagerfelt alongside other felt finger puppets including Anna Wintour & Christian Siriano. These puppets are hand-sewn and include Anna & Karl's infamous shades. They on sale now for $19.99 each. I've never had finger puppets before but it's kind of fun having fashion's powers that be on the tips of your fingers. What do you think of them?

Karl Who? Lagerfeld's Tote of Choice

I've collected enough free tote bags over the years be it from Topshop, YSL, Target Bulleye bodegas...and yet I kind of think this one is especially awesome! Karl Lagerfeld was spotted at the Nice Airport in France yesterday carrying a "Karl Who?" tote. Crack me up..Another reason to love the man!

Runway Review: Chanel Couture

Chanel Couture Spring 2009 collection was one that was started with a piece of white paper, a pair of scissors and Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld wanted to clean house and decided that he “wanted everything graphic itself, no bling-bling”. What we got was a beautiful collection in predominantly white, save for a few smatterings of black.

In the wrong hands, this could have potentially been monotonous and dull, but it was actually really fresh, clean and utterly beautiful. Every texture seemed to be alive, miniscule details sang to be be noticed.

Gently squared shoulders, often in cropped capelets/jackets were paired with a-line dresses and skirts or slim pants. Miniscule sequins dotted garments often creating stripes or gradations that were sometimes white on white but often in contrast for a sporty historic Chanel vibe. The classic Chanel Braid trim was trimmed down and sleek. Applique, sequins and feathers added dimension and depth.

The only print was a warp print rose silhouette. The graphic tears were actually seed beads sewn to form a pattern rather than a print.

Also spectacular were the paper hair ornaments/flowers that were crafted by Japanese hair genius Katsuya Kamo and a team of several people working in the Chanel Atelier while staring at images of 18th Century Porcelain. The results are nothing less than art.

Overall, I loved the clean freshness of the collection, very classically Chanel, but very new at the same time. The toning down of bling had fantastic textural results that were simply visually stunning. In this economy many people are down against the elitist nature of couture, but when times are tough beauty and inspiration are important and Karl Lagerfeld with this collection just proved his cause for couture.

Return of the King

King Karl returns to New York this weekend in time for the opening of Chanel’s Mobil Art Exhibit in Central Park to the public.

Chanel commissioned British architect Zaha Hadid to create a travelling structure that will house art by contemporary artists. The art is to all be inspired by Chanel’s ubiquitous 2.55 quilted handbag. (In case you are wondering the name if the handbag comes from the issue date of February 1955). There will be 20 international artists showcased including: Daniel Buren, Blue Noses, David Levinthal, Fabrice Hyber, Lee Bul, Nobuyoshi Araki, Soju Tao, Sophie Calle and more.

Admission to the exhibition in Central Park will be free, although visitors should be aware that you must visit the on-site ticket booth for limited same day ticketing from October 22- November 9, 2008. For more info visit chanel-mobileart.com
Location in Central Park
P.S. The Chanel Mobil Art Exhibit has already made stops in Hong Kong and Tokyo, but will soon be headed to London (May 2009), Moscow (Oct 2009) and finally Paris (Feb 2010).
