Sample Sale Report: Multi-Brand + Cynthia Steffe Sale

So perhaps you already caught my Tweets from the mixed designer sale today?  If not make sure you follow SugrRockCatwalk to stay up-to-date with the latest from sample sales.

Anyways, since Cynthia Steffe was one of the designer’s featured at the sale I was super excited.  I did wonder however why the address was different for this sale.  And it turned out that it wasn’t the usual legendary sample sales that has my heart racing and my arms laden with goodies.  Guess I’ll have to wait til next Spring for one of those.

 

This time around it was a much humbler sample sale that took place in a large space on 7th Avenue.  The room was bright (2 skylights ensured it) but humid.  There was a muggy feeling about the space despite the cool temperatures outside.

The shoppers on scene from what I could tell were mostly patternmakers from the area.

Perhaps this was a true “sample” sale as I had a hard time discerning sizes although things did appear to be on the small end of the spectrum and I didn’t notice any styles in a full size run.  I did however notice some floral printed pants in variations of the same print.  Perhaps test prototypes to see  which one was going to go forward?

There was plenty of room to look, although occasionally you’d have to go out of your way to avoid several small groups of women (the patternmakers) shopping together.

I did not spot any fitting rooms or mirrors.  The Cash registers looked pretty clear when I was at the sale.

If you are looking for Chaus or Kenneth Cole, this made up about 70-80% of the sale, samples will run you just $10. If you are looking for Cynthia Steffe styles are $20 a pop except for leathers which are $50.  I didn’t spot any leather though.  There are definitely some jems to be found but I wasn’t inspired to dig around too much.  I did spot a cute camel coat in one ladies arms for $50.

Preview: Kenneth Cole Silver Edition 925

What do shoes that are 4 years in the making look like? I was completely intrigued when I heard that Kenneth Cole would be launching a line of shoes called "Silver Edition 925" that have been in development for 4 years to ensure ultimate comfort. The tagline for these shoes? "Warning Women: No One Will Ever Satisfy You Like This Again (Below The Ankles)." A pretty big assertation that has caused over 1500 pairs to be pre-sold already according to FashionWeekDaily. I certainly hope these shoes can deliver because every time I have bought a shoe that I believed would become my everyday comfortable shoes, I've been greeted by great pain. But seeing as they are the makers of Lani recommended gentle souls by Kenneth Cole, I feel like they could live up to their promises.

A Glowing Review for gentle souls by Kenneth Cole

I love my gentle souls. They are one of the best things that have ever happened to my feet. They're tied with my Jeffrey Campbell heels for favorite shoes. They're so freakin' comfortable.

When I first saw them, I was attracted to the shape of the shoe. Most ladies love stilettos. Not me, I love chunky heels and wedges. I wasn't (and still am not) a fan of the stitching; however, it's less noticeable in real life and the comfort more than makes up for it.

The foot bed is cushioned with flaxseed memory foam and provides great arch support. I can literally walk, run, and dance in these shoes all day. If you want to check them out, they're available and on sale at Piperlime for $159.99 compared to $265 retail.

The shoes run true to size. My only complaint (and it's a minor one) is that I had to buy heel pads to keep them from sliding off. Oh wait, I have another complaint. Why are the other pairs of gentle souls so freakin' ugly?

Kenneth Cole NY Sample Report

I stopped by the Kenneth Cole after work. It was really busy, but sane. Even with the stuff selling like hot cakes, there was plenty of inventory. Size 0 and 2 are a little sparse, but there's a couple in almost every remaining style. I'm not sure how it will be tomorrow, but might be worth checking out if you're into Kenneth Cole or just looking for a good deal. And boys, there's plenty of stuff for you!

Prices are really good, but (and this is a big one) there's no fitting room or trying on for clothes. A couple girls tried to put on skirts over their clothes and were scolded by staff.

Footwear: great selection for every size but women's 7 & 7.5. Isn't that the story at every sale? Boo for me, yay for everyone else. ($40 a pair, any 3 pairs for $99)
Tops: a few tees, lots of red and purple turtle necks ($10)
Vests: one style, only size Medium, but plenty in stock ($15)
Dresses: a lot of black dresses, sweater dresses in cream, black and dark blue, and silk dresses in black and red in all sizes ($20)
Skirts and Pants: lots of inventory, but I didn't get a good look ($20)
Leather: plenty of skirts and pants, but I couldn't imagine buying leather pants without trying them on. Correction, I couldn't imagine buying leather pants period ($50)
Hats & Scarves: a lot of red and magenta acrylic/wool blend, a few cream wool ($10, 2 for $15)
Handbags: plenty of fug patent leather bags ($50)
Men's Briefcases: lots of nice manbags, black briefcases/laptop bags ($70-$90)

While I was there, I found this amazing, amazing leather dress. The pictures don't do it justice. I was sure it wasn't going to fit me, but I figured my sister would. She doesn't and it's way too small for me, so I'm probably going to put it up on eBay. If your're a size 0 and interested, please let me know. I'll sell it to you for $50, which is what I paid for it. Retail $498!
