Sample Sale Report: The WANT Agency

I stopped by the WANT Agency sample sale today to just the occasional shopper and plenty of well priced merch, especially in the backroom that might go unnoticed at first glance. By that what do I mean? I snagged an ACNE dress for just $50 and ACNE boots for $50! Sure not everything at the sale is this cheap and the dress is a couple years old, but at that price who is complaining?

In the main room of the sale I saw tote bags from Want Les Essentiels de La Vie for $195, $245 for a leather zip portfolio, Just $50 for a plethora of men’s shoes, primarily by Swims.

These boat shoe style Swims were $60 a pop. In addition, there were a couple pairs of $50 spectator shoes and quite a few pairs of lace up boots. Some cable knit sweaters on a rack were around $150 by Maison Kitsune.

For menswear $50 plaid shirts, a $50 nubby sweater and $20 plain and graphic tees were available from Maison Kitsune.

I spotted $25 long sleeve striped shirts, $150 skirts and a $200 romper for women.

Outerwear was $500, a fox embroidered cardigan was $200, textured blouse $100, $125 for the striped button up shirt.

Another $100 shirt, $500 coat, $250 sweater.

The backroom which I didn't even notice at first because you have to walk down a hallway yielded all sorts of goodies with prices topping out at $100 for leather, $50 for dresses and outerwear, $50 for leather boots, $40 for sneakers, $25 for jeans! Crazy! There are rack upon rack of mostly jeans and the ladies section winds around in a even further hidden back room where I saw a few oversized trenches, interesting body suits, tops and dresses amongst a larger selection of ACNE and Nudie jeans. For shoes the sizes ranged but I saw plenty of 36 or 37 for most part. There were these beautiful nude stacked heel booties, curved heart pumps,lace up booties, sandals and assortment of other shoes.

Overall a sale worth dropping by. Staffers are super friendly but you need to make sure that you have cash or else you'll be dashing out to the Duane Reade a couple blocks away.

Coming Soon: H&M x Lanvin Collaboration

For days Twitter and the blogosphere have been buzzing about who the next possible H&M designer collaboration will be. Finally H&M has confirmed that Lanvin is indeed next on the roster. Artistic director Alber Elbaz, and menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver will be behind the designs that will go on sale on November 23, 2010 at 200 H&M stores worldwide!

The collection will include both womenswear and menswear and will be revealed on November 2nd via a video.

Lanvin has previously collaborated with Acne, but with prices ranging from $410 for shorts to $1350 for a trench, it was more of a contemporary pricing collaboration.

“H&M approached us to collaborate, and see if we could translate the dream we created at Lanvin to a wider audience, not just a dress for less. I have said in the past that I would never do a mass-market collection, but what intrigued me was the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public. This has been an exceptional exercise, where two companies at opposite poles can work together because we share the same philosophy of bringing joy and beauty to men and women around the world.” Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin.

“We are thrilled about Lanvin’s collection for H&M, it is such an exciting moment. Lanvin will bring to H&M a luxurious French tradition that is also modern and playful. Look for Less: The Shearling Coat

Who hasn't lusted after a shearling jacket after watching Burberry's FW 2010 runway show? I know that I certainly am in need. And while the original costs upwards of $3000, it's already sold out! This fall must-have will add instant luxury served with a tough attitude to the plainest tee shirt and skinny jeans. It also would look great as a topper to a maxi dress or tee.

Anyways as I was wondering what else was available at a price that wouldn't break the bank I found a multitude of options at varying price points.

The Acne version seems to be slightly less tough version in it's khaki tones it appears sweeter and more adorable than the Burberry version. The biker styling and snug to body fit make it easy to wear with just about anything.

Topshop Sheepskin Flying Jacket $650

The Topshop version seems like a darker cousin of the Burberry, the oversize collar and straighter body echo similarities. While the chunky buckle details add a hard edge. This one really gives off a strong aviator vibe.

McGinn Dree Faux Leather Jacket with Genuine Shearling Collar & Cuffs $495

The McGinn version echoes the color palatte of the Burberry version but the shaggy shearling minus the buckles gives this one a more overall feminine cleaned up vibe. I remember seeing this one in person a few months back and the shearling trim was super soft and it appeared to be great quality too!

Rachel Rachel Roy Leather Aries Jacket $299

The Rachel Rachel Roy jacket echoes the snuggly appeal of the Burberry version. With it's full shaggy collar it gives the appearance of almost a comfy blanket wrapped around your body.

ASOS Leather Aviator Jacket $185.35

The ASOS take on the jacket is the most masculine. Although it's fitted to the body, with the chunky rib detailing and pointy collar it gives the impression of it once really did belong to a boy.

Topshop Sleeveless Faux Sheepskin Gilet $125

Finally, if you are on a budget a sheepskin gilet is a great option to get the look for less. Although it won't take you into deep winter, it certainly could take you into fall and would look great over long sleeve tops.

Another option if you're really on a budget or don't have space for another jacket is to add a bit of luxe to just about any jacket you already own is with the edition of this super soft J. Crew Mongolian Lamb Stole that rings in at $98, I saw it in stores last week and couldn't get over how soft it felt! I would personally choose the champagne tone version!

Lanvin for Acne

Alber Elbaz often leaves a girl weak in the knees with his Lanvin creations. The bespectacled designer will be collaborating with Swedish denim company Acne to create a 28 piece collection that combines what NY Mag describes as "the classic style and impeccable detailing of Lanvin with the slightly rugged and hip look that Acne is famous for. Made from Italian and Japanese fabrics, the denim is minimally treated so it keeps its rich color."

I think it's a beautiful collection. The short trench, cropped brass button jacket and the strapless dress are my favorites. I only wish it was a little more affordable for my budget, prices range from $410 for shorts to $520 for jeans to $820 for a dress to $1350 for the trenches. These prices in my opinion are especially high for denim and given the state of the economy. Usually designer collaborations take a high end product and bring it into the realm of affordability. Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to satisfy my Alber fix for a long time. Target or someone please hear my cries!
