Shopping For Clean Water at the Hatch Showroom Sample Sale

IMG_2222IMG_2223IMG_2224
I stopped the Hatch Showroom sample sale earlier this afternoon. Since their sample sale information said very little about pricing, I wasn't sure what to expect, especially since they had a string of well known designers listed. Typically such showroom sample sales tend to be overpriced. The draw for me though was the fact that 100% off the profits are going towards a great charity, Waves for Water. Hatch Showroom even had a little display set up that showed off what they were planning to do by sending 300 water filters to Nicaragua. Each filter costs $50 but can provide clean water to 100 people for 5 years! Can you imagine the impact?

After shopping the sale I soon realized that not only was the charity good, the product and prices are also good! Note though that the sizes tended to skew on the small side, but I saw sizes 0 to 8, with jeans in 23-26. Almost everything at the sale is a one off, so shop early for best selection. Although there is no fitting room, there is a large mirror set up at the very back that is surrounded by racks so you feel like you have some semblance of privacy.

On the tray above, you could snag jewelry from Kelly Wearstler for $40-50 and bangles from Giles and Brother for $20! There were cute pouchettes with suede handles for $12, Soludos shoes for $10 and scarves for $5!

Some of the fun items I saw were a sequin jacket for $40, a Mason dress for $60, a VPL dress for $70 (there was also a damaged one for $30).
IMG_2228IMG_2229IMG_2230
I saw plenty of Intermix product and James Perse. This stunning sequin tank was $30, James Perse long sleeve tees were $25, while this jersey dress was $50.
IMG_2232IMG_2233IMG_2234
For men, there were 4 pairs of Adidas shoes going for $30 a pop. I think they were all size 9. I found a pair of leather Rag & Bone pants in metallic gold for $80 but it was missing a button, and I am guessing it is a size 25.
IMG_2235IMG_2236IMG_2237
There was a small rack marked designer at the sale that had a Thakoon dress for $100, an Erdem top for $70, Vena Cava dresses for $65. I also spotted an Erin Fetherson dress and Theyskens Theory pants. There was also a small table of accesories nearby with CFDA award winning Albertus Swanepoel hats for $20-40.

This Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent lace dress was $60 while the pleather mixed skirt was $35. Towards the back of the sale there were quite a few pairs of Rag & Bone jeans for $40-50 a pop and some J Brand and other jeans.

At the very back of the sale, don't skip this part for some truly spectacular deals. This area called vintage yielded me a $20 Gryphon trench coat and $20 McQ nylon cargo pants. I saw some $15 Marni pants in white, but they are probably a size 24 waist. There were also a pair of Superfine jeans and plenty of Daryl K pants.

Lizzy Caplan in Viva Vena!'s Fashion Film

I love so many things about this Viva Vena! video.  The clothes are lovely and breezy as Vena Cava pieces always are.  Lizzy Caplan, who I will forever love because of Mean Girls, does an awesome job of delivering the best lines ever.  And I love all of the little details like the "Cool Band" pin and "Vintage Paperback" book.  This film is comedic gold.

Sample Sale Report: Vena Cava & DanniJo

IMAG3813IMAG3830IMAG3817IMAG3820IMAG3842IMAG3818

The Vena Cava & DanniJo Sample sale isn’t open to the public until tomorrow morning, but I had the chance to run through and snap some pictures of what you can expect tomorrow am.  The sale sprawls out over 3 relatively small rooms with a good assortment of merch in each.

Everything seems to be separated by type of item but there are not more a dozen of any given style.  Most items at the sale however were either stand alones or in groups of 2 or 3. Sizes appeared to be on the smaller end of the spectrum for most part.

The accessory selection was small and bags are $150 a pop while shoes are $100.  Most of the shoes are in the size 38 category with a few 37-40 thrown in the mix.  Some shoes are from Vena Cava’s collaborations with TenOverSix and Converse but there are a few Via Spiga and other shoes thrown in the mix.  Multi colored suede pouchettes in autumnal hues are just $10 a pop.

Prices are pretty straightforward and posted on the wall by type of item:

While nothing tops $200, I would go for the separates, with skirts at just $50, you can snag a printed maxi skirt and max out bang for your buck.  You can also find a small bin of samples with graphic printed tank dresses in size S-XS for $20 and stock pieces from the Uniqlo collaboration in this bin.  There are also some belts for just $10 with my fave being the striped elastic option.

As for the DanniJo portion of the sale you could snag a super cute printed iPad case for $75. Medieval looking bracelets for $78, Bold Pendant necklace for $78, One of a kind/Vintage Beaded Necklaces for $98.  They also had Neha bags for $168 and bins of items that are from the more recent collection with prices as ticketed.  For one of my fave signature looking necklaces it was marked $228.

There was also a small selection of random vintage/inspirational pieces in the back that included a vintage Anne Denuellmeister piece for $150 to an embroidered baby top for $10. Ps. I spotted some Contempo Casuals in the mix

Vena Cava X Unliqlo Launch

First off - apologies for the delay in this post! I meant to have this up last week since I hit up the Vena Cava X Uniqlo launch last week when it opened but due to some technical glitch in Blogspot - I wasn't able to post until this week! Anyways, this is the third installation of Uniqlo's designer invitation project and probably my favorite of the lot.

I arrived during my lunch break - I decided to trek to Soho since the weather was amazing (instead of all this nonsense rain we've been having this week). It wasn't too packed but there were definitely quite a few people scoping out the new line.

The collection is made up of a mixture of tops and dresses - each of which comes in two colors. The pieces are jersey and seem like they would be uber comfortable in the summer and definitely easy to wear.
In terms of sizing, they had plenty. If you're an XS and looking to grab some of these pieces act sooner rather than later. I actually stopped by Uniqlo last night and the sizing was similar to the opening day - plenty were available but smaller sizes were more sparse.

My personal faves of the collection are the layered tank with geometric print (above left) and jersey printed dress (above right).

Also, if you haven't had a chance to check out the Costello Tagliapietra and Charlotte Ronson collaborations, fear not - there are still quite a few pieces available. Just head to the back half of the store on the first floor by the main cash.
