Trends: School Ties

Lanvin Spring 2010, Gianfranco Ferre Spring 2010
It's not just because of my recent Gossip Girl birthday although school girl/boy is on the brain, but I've noticed that the in terms of ties the striped schoolboy skinny is pretty hot right now! Weather it be subtle prep school-esque stripes at Lanvin to wide and bold at Moschino the look has been all over the Men's Spring 2010 runways. My personal fave is the clean very graphic and sporty look of the stripes at Jean Paul Gaultier. I think ties are def the easiest way to wake up a dull suit, so pattern is good! Which look do you like best?

Get Sewing: Where the Wild Things Are

So if you are like Lani and wanting to get into the Where the Wild Things Are action and not pay Opening Ceremony prices? Don't forget about DIY:) I randomly just spotted this rather adorable craft project on Instructables.com posted by jessyratfink. If you want to get ready for a Halloween costume or movie premiere option, time to get sewing! What do you think? Yay or Nay?

iWant Opening Ceremony x Where the Wild Things Are

Oh my god, I'm squealing and giddy over the Opening Ceremony & Spike Jonze Where the Wild Things Are collaboration. The collection includes a range of faux fur pieces for both men and women, inspired by Max’s crew of wild friends including Carol, Judith, K.W., Douglas, and Bull. Furry coats galore!

I think men kind of got jipped on this one. The men's coat on the right is nice, but I'm not sure how I feel about the cream colored piece. It feels a little too costume-y.
These two coats are my absolute favorites from the collection. I love. No, I die. They're both so fun and wearable. If I had to pick one, I think I would gravitate towards the one on the right.

The collection is awesome and limited edition, so naturally prices are up there. The coats start at $575 and the playsuits pictured at the top are selling for $610. To buy or view more pictures of the collection, check out openingceremony.us. And check out the trailer for the movie, here. Eee...! I'm so excited!

Hope you had a good weekend. Stay healthy! And let's chat soon.

Spotted. Anna Sui at Target in Brooklyn

The Anna Sui for Target collection is now in stores! I did a Target run for cleaning supplies over the weekend and spotted the entire collection (with the exception of the coveted leather jacket) at the Target in downtown Brooklyn. They must have just received the shipment because they had racks and racks of Anna Sui x Target in practically all sizes. If you haven't already, check out Erin's review of the fit and quality of the collection.

Now Wearing...

Blue bell sleeve organza dress - Geren Ford
Long black cardigan - Jeanne Pierre
Multi-strand chain necklace - vintage
Slashed sheer tights - Calvin Klein/DIY
Black oxford heels - Jeffrey Campbell
Flower headband & black cocktail ring - Forever 21
Peacock cuff - dirtystory (be sure to enter for a chance to win our giveaway!)

I love, love, love this dress. It's one of my best sample sale finds ever! It was a damaged piece from a Geren Ford sale in LA - $10. The silk has a few small spots on the chest, but once I pile on my necklaces, you can't even see them. So my necklace serves two purposes. One, to accessorize, and two, to hide fabric boo boos.

I tend to wear this headband (and hair accessories in general) when I dress up just because my hair has no volume. It's so freakin' straight. It takes so much product and so much work to get it to stay for more than 5 minutes. Just ask Erin or any of my girlfriends.

The party I went to wasn't a super fancy affair, so I decided to wear ripped tights and a cardigan to keep the look more casual. For a fancier affair, I would have dropped the headband and gone with shiny shoes and fresh nylons.

iWant: Camilla Skovgaard

I had just finished dinner and was walking by a Brooklyn boutique when these shoes screamed at me from the window! These shoes by Danish Designer Camilla Skovgaard are dangerous and the price tag at $440 isn't exactly friendly either. The chain paired with the intense serrated grip sole (which is the designer's signature sporty touch) adds both drama and function to these 4 1/2" heels. What can I say except, I love to love these babies! Unfortnately from me even if I could afford them, they don't come in size 5 :(...but for those who can dream Camilla Skovgaards are available on Net-A-Porter.com, Shopbop.com and Endless.com.

Stylist is Stylish

June Ambrose, Celebrity Stylist and Author of Effortless Style
Spotted at the Anna Sui for Target Press Preview event. Noticed her because her statement necklace with the chain fringe was absolutely fabulous! I couldn't help but be distracted by it while I was supposed to be checking out Anna Sui's Target line, so when I saw her outside on the red carpet, I had to talk to her. Upon closer look, she also has amazing hair, super fun white nail polish and cute shoes! As a stylist what she wears totally reflects her as a brand...

She says the Necklace is Catherine Malandrino! I say AMAZING!

iWant a-morir Studded Sunglasses

I met a-morir designer Kerin Rose a couple months back on a disco yacht, and since then she's been blowin' up! Her eyewear has been spotted on celebs like Katy Perry and Rihanna, and she was recently interviewed by Vibe magazine.

Check Rihanna rockin' the Barracuda in Jay-Z's "We Run This Town".
Her latest pair, the studded Barracuda has me drooling. Look at them! They're so badass, and yes, you can see through them.

The shades are available on preorder for $350. But I'm not Rihanna, Lady Gaga or a baller, so for now it's just daydreaming and iWant-ing. To see more from a-morir or place an order, click here.

New Britney Spears Track feat. Lil Wayne - "Bad Girl"

"Bad Girl" from Britney Spears and Lil Wayne, my guilty pleasure dream team. It's just a demo, and no confirmation on authenticity just yet. Real or not, I'm totally in love with this track and my inner teenybopper is dying.

Nail Polish Review: OPI Suede Collection

The OPI Suede collection hit stores earlier this month but I finally had a chance to check them out in real life. You might remember me mentioning the growing trend towards Matte Finish nail polish earlier this year. And sure enough OPI did come out with some Matte Finish shades but it was Essie, not OPI that released the Matte About You finisher that takes your regular nail polish into Flat Shades! I still need to pick up a bottle but didn't spot it at Ricky's today.

Anyways OPI launched 6 shades of their best selling colors in a Matte Collection, but after testing it out, I wasn't sure I loved the completely Flat Chalky finish! Fortunately if you want the Matte look with just a little bit of shimmer texture effects, OPI also launched 6 best selling shades as part of the Suede collection including colors: You Don’t Know Jacques, Russian Navy, Lincoln Park, OPI Ink , We’ll Always Have Paris, Suzi Skies In The Pyrenees.

I wondered if I should get the shade You Don't Know Jacques (the infamous greyish brown shade of last F'08) but it looked more golden toned than grey so I gravitated towards getting the We'll Always Have Paris Suede. It's a great purplish/pink that reminds me of Jem and the Holograms that I'm sure will be perfect for fall. What do you think of the color?

The polish goes on smooth and actually dries super quickly. It took 2 or 3 coats to get even coverage, but is actually faster to do than regular nail polish as there is hardly any lag time between coats. The nail polish came with a warning tag that noted it will not wear as long as original OPI Lacquer that I can usually make last for a week. It also says not to use top coat or use hand lotion. I understood the top coat part and even tested it on my pinky nail. It actually makes the color look more like regular opalescent nail polish and takes away the matte finish. But it was the warning about lotion that freaked me out because as the weather gets colder, the more I need lotion. I tested out 2 hand creams subsequently and did not notice any adverse effects to the finish, so I think it should be fine to use lotion.

Overall I really like it as it feels almost like quick dry and I am in love with the matte textured look. We'll see how well it holds up to regular wear and tear though as the week progresses.

Poll: True or False? Blisters vs. Cuteness of Shoes

In general, I think true. Cute, comfortable shoes do exist. They just take some patience to find, and you'll need the self-control to let the painful ones go.

I refuse to wear fugly shoes, but I also refuse (slash can't) wear shoes that hurt my feet. It always saddens me to put back a pair of hot heels that look amazing but don't fit quite right. I just have to remind myself it's always for the best. Because think about it, hobbling and injured feet are not cute. So I think the answer should be false. Your thoughts?

Style Stalking at NYFW

Good Evening Lower East Siders: My Gossip Girl B-day

Last week I celebrated my birthday and being that it was my 3rd in NYC I wanted to make it special. As you all can pretty much tell, I love any excuse to dress up! I watched the Korean movie My Sassy Girl a few years ago that gave me the inspiration for my party. I've always wanted to dress up like a school girl and go dancing. So to modernize and Americanize the concept I went with a Gossip Girl theme.

After much searching, I had my birthday at Le Lupanar in the LES. The venue had plenty of seating, easy door policy, room to dance and a very luxe, chill vibe. What can I say? I'm a sucker for those black chandeliers! The manager, Kieter, is a complete darling! He even concocted a special drink menu inspired by the characters of Gossip Girl just for my party and extended Happy Hour! My fave by far was definitely the Chuck Bass-tard...seriously addictive and dangerous, maybe a bit too much like Chuck ;)

Erin as Blair:
Button Up Ruffle Blouse - Proenza Schouler for Target
Plaid Skirt - French Toast
Cross Snap Tie - French Toast
Argyle Socks - J.Crew
Plaid Headband - H&M
Patent Loafers - Cole Haan

Lani as Nelly Yuki:
Polo Tee Dress - Anna Sui
Glasses - Alain Milki
Leather Belt with Chain - Vintage
Flower Headband - Forever 21

Unfortunately I broke my camera a couple days before so I had to rely on the photo skills of friends! Here are just a few photo's from friends that posted first. Doesn't everyone look adorbs?

-xoxo
