Sale Report: Filene's Basement

Filene's Basement at Union Square is taking 30%-50% everything in their store. Heck you can even buy the racks, changeroom doors and other fixtures if you need!

The majority of merch is on the lower end of the discount range (i.e. 30% off) but you can score staples like underwear from Calvin Klein at 30% which isn't too bad. Shoes are all 40% off - everything is all over the place which is expected but I did see some Sperry Top Siders for $48. Clearance items that have an orange tag are an additional 40%.

The racks marked "Vault" are where they keep their designer goods - all of which are 50% off! Sizing is completely random, as are styles, but if you're willing to put in a bit of time you might be able to score something amazing.

The most plentiful of the designer merch was Missoni Gear - so if you missed your chance with the Target X Missoni madness - maybe you can score something better now! T shirts were going for $40, polos $50, jeans $50 and knitwear ranged from $100-$140. Keep in mind you definitely need to dig around and scour - alot of the merch is there for a reason but you can still find some decent things.

Out of everything I saw, these pieces were one of my favorites (partly b/c they were in the best condition as well). Both were going for $120 a piece.

The sweater shown above left was pretty amazing too. The texture on the knit was incredible which is what Missoni is known for. I tried this on - but it was stretched out quite a bit from being hung on the hanger - otherwise I would have totally picked it up. If you're into prints, the above cardigan (cotton/linen mix) was going for $140.

Patchwork knits were priced on the lower end and will set you back $100. If you can pull off that orange without looking like a pumpkin - go for it.

Overall there's some decent stuff to be had - you just have to look and dig around. I suggest you take a few passes at the Vault racks since things keep moving around by the minute. Things get picked up but they also get put back - so patience is definitely a virtue in this scenario.

Spotted in Chicago: Missoni for Target

Sunday evening I stopped by the Target in Logan Square to pick up a few things for my apartment. Given the mania that ensued when the collection was released, I was surprised to see quite a bit of inventory still available. I spotted a rack of womens and girls clothing, all various sizes and styles, and a shopping cart full of misc accessories like makeup bags, headbands, hats, and tights. And in the shoe section, there were at least half a dozen pairs of rainboots still available. I wouldn't go out of your way to shop the collection since the material is a bit disappointing and sizes are limited, but if you're in the neighborhood and been curious to see the pieces in person, it might be worth stopping in.

Target X Missoni: The Top 5 Greediest Ebayers

When it comes to designer collaborations - there are only two types of people who buy the items, those who actually like/love/want what is up for sales and those who are looking to turn a quick buck. Since launching only a few days ago - ebay listings have skyrocketed and are hovering around 30,000 items...which is pure insanity. I skimmed ebay just to gauge the markups and here's a quick look at my top 5 most ridunculous items up for grabs...

Number 5:

The first seller to make my shortlist is the seller of this tie which starts at $75 with a Buy It Now price of $100. Seriously why do people bother with this.

Amazon.com has a few Missoni ties going for $89 - so why would anyone in their right might opt to buy the collab tie for more? I just don't get it.

Number 4:

A 2 piece luggage set going for $495. Enough said...

Number 3:

This duvet set is going for $600 with a Buy it Now option of $659. Fear not though - the seller has graciously offered free shipping - how kind...

What makes #3's listing so interesting (and by default - the seller a complete tool) is that this item is still available online on Target's website...I even tried to add it to my cart just to check and it worked.

Number 2:

Next up is a bike...which currently has 7 bids so far - and is going for $1,500...I don't know what I find harder to believe - that someone had the audacity to list the bike for that price - or that someone actually bid that much on the bike...

Number 1:

Topping the list is a knitted skirt....going for $5,799 - I did a double take when I saw this just because I simply couldn't believe it...I can't go into details on how disturbingly upsetting this is on so many levels....

Anyways - that pretty much wraps up my ongoing coverage of this Target debaucle. Even though I ended up nabbing everything I was looking for - shitty doesn't even begin to describe the trials and tribulations of the FNO fiasco, the in-store madness and online extravaganza...

Do us all a favor - if you decide not to keep something, please return it to your local Target store instead of trying to make a quick buck...

Target X Missoni: Update

Target is literally driving me mad. I woke up today - hauled ass to the computer and tried to buy some things online but like Erin, my attempt was greeted with complete and total failure. Just to give you some background on me - normally I'm a pretty logical person...reserved...rational - heck I'm an accountant for Pete's sake. BUT - part of me has a hyper-addictive personality....so if I want something...all rhyme and reason goes out the window. There's no room for logic when I have tunnel vision - and today was just one of those days...

After being rejected online - I booked a zip car STAT and made my way to Target in Queens. I arrived there around 9:20 am and the store was wiped clean - much like the pop-up shop. Housewares - gone....bedding - gone...menswear - non-existent...

 

Womenswear was in a bit better shape (but not by much) and still had some merch left. I think all the die hard fans ransacked the place right when doors opened at 8am and most of what was left over was left over for a reason.

 

Target Not Prepared for Missoni?

After the mess that was the Missoni for Target Pop-up shop on Fashion's Night Out, I was ready to forgive and forget afterall I can understand that the logistics of stocking a shop in Midtown Manhattan to be something of a nightmare. Perhaps a slight oversight on behalf of Target? And on my part for thinking the pop-up on a night open to the public was a good idea. Merchandise that was supposed to last for 4 days didn't even make it through the first night.

I decided the next best thing would be Target.com as it has never failed me in the past, plus it would be from the comfort of my own home. So this morning upon waking up I logged onto Target.com, first through my mobile while brushing my teeth and later through my laptop while getting dressed. At 7:30am it was moving slowly but by the time I was ready to check out at 7:55am the website came to a standstill. I thought perhaps my computer was frozen at first but soon received an internal error notification. When I tried to refresh several minutes later I got a Target message with the apologetic dog telling me something had gone wrong but after several tries I still could not get back on the website. Target.com had failed me. Is it because of their recent shift away from Amazon? I don't know but the message I got after 2 recent rejections - in the pop-up store and online was that of missed opportunity. The retailer failed to deliver the level of service required for the amount of advertising dollars they spent ensuring Missoni for Target was a success. Campaign successful, but in my mind the end result for pleasing the public was absent.

Has the economy been so doom and gloom lately though that the American retail giant planned poorly for the insatiable appetite of the public?

While none of this will stop me from shopping at Target I am nevertheless still disappointed and still Missoni-less. And while I had over $200 of merchandise in my cart, I am starting to grow weary.

Target x Missoni: Pop Up Shop...Epic Fail

For FNO, I remember how hectic SoHo was last year and wanted to stay as far away as possible - so I decided to hit up the Target x Missoni Pop Up shop by Bryant Park. Greeted with a line at 5:45pm that wrapped around from 42nd and 6th to Broadway and 41st - I decided to hold my ground with Erin and stay. Big mistake...

I ended up waiting... and waiting...and waiting (at least Erin and her friend were there to keep me company or else I think I would have literally lost it). After FOUR hours - we finally got in...and shitshow doesn't even begin to describe what was going on inside. Of all the lines at sample sales, restaurants and everything else worth doing in NYC, this was by far the most insane...

The space itself was pretty spacious - but also ransacked from the hundreds of people in front of us and the press preview the day before. Clothing was sparse, menswear pieces were non-existent, and housewares were cleaned up. The venue was initially two floors but by the time we got inside, the upstairs had been closed off since they ran out of stock.

There were a few racks of clothing left which included a cord jacket and some knit skirts - but nothing worth the wait that we endured. From what I did see, the apparel definitely has Missoni's flare and aesthetic - but has Target's quality which is to be expected and should come as no shock.

If you're looking for boxes and some vases, those are still available but will probably be gone by tomorrow.

A lot of shoppers seemed dissapointed with the shortage of merch available given that it was the opening day and seemed to be buying whatever was left - just for the sake of buying something.

While it's not the smartest move (buying for the sake of buying) - I was debating on doing just that since I had already banked 4 hours in line outside. Fortunately, I quickly came to my senses when I noticed the other gargantuan line to pay which quite fittingly, zig zagged across the store since the register area was rammed.

If you're planning on hitting the store tomorrow - forget about it. By the time we left, shelves were left bare and the store won't last till Sunday (I'm not even sure if it will be open tomorrow). You're definitely better off holding out until the collection drops in stores and online.

Target x Missoni: Pop Up Shop
