Bauble Bar Unwrapped x Bonobos Pop-up Shop

Bauble Bar, the online purveyor of high quality great value costume jewelry has launched a pop-up shop called BaubleBar Unwrapped in the heart of the Meat Packing District and invited Bonobos, online purveyor of men's clothes that really fit well (especially pants!), to join them. So for the next few days the ladies can add some sparkle to their life while them gentlemen can get a chance to get dapper.
BaubleBar Unwrapped has been open since the beginning of February to celebrate of the brand’s two year anniversary since launching and give shoppers an in-person glimpse a huge array of best-selling styles, enjoy hands-on styling sessions and even snag a few presents along the way. There is a present wall where shoppers will each be given a surprise present from BaubleBar (celebrating two years of presence with two weeks of presents!) that could contain anything from free baubles, to discount codes and other special treats including a Grilled Cheese truck!
I had the chance to stop by last night for a party celebrating Bonobos moving in with Valentine's Day inspired drinks, giveaways and a chance to see the merchandise in person. With jewelry since there is only so much you can tell about a product online, it was fun for me to see it in person, and feel the weight and explore what pieces might look like on.
I think my favorite Bauble Bar piece has to be this bejeweled collar which was both striking and well priced at just $44.

Mr. Porter: Pop-Up Shop

A friend of mine came into town this weekend and we decided to check out the Mr. Porter pop-up shop in Meatpacking.  The theme of the shop is titled "Suits and Style" but most of what's available to purchase are accessories, not clothing. Think sunglasses, knitted ties, jewelry and watches - all of which can be paired back with whatever look you choose to sport.

Mr. Porter: Sale and Pop-Up Shop

Mr. Porter's online sale started earlier this week with lots of merch going for up to 50% off.  Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of the site.  Hands down, it's been my fave online retailer ever since launching and blows other online retailers out of the water.  The editorials are amazing, there's tonns of product info including measurements, free shipping/returns and is amazingly curated..

In other Porter news, they are opening up a pop-up shop geared towards suits & style for a week - I can't wait to check it out! The temporary shop opens June 9-17, 2012 at 72 Gansevoort St (b/n Greenwich and Washington St).  12pm-9pm daily.

Sensorium by Sephora

This weekend I randomly checked out Sensorium - an exhibit in meatpacking put on by Sephora. I didn't really know what it was but since I was in the area and the cost of the exhibit ($15) is given back to you in the form of a Sephora gift card - why not!
The exhibit starts off at the beginning of a long corridor, with this neat little table with different buttons that you push that release different scents for you take a whiff of. I initially went a bit too close and got a blast of star anise which I wasn't too crazy about...

Denim Habit NYC Opening

IMAG3254IMAG3262
Denim Habit the beloved Philadelphia based boutique is spreading it’s wings a little further and making it’s way to New York City’s Meatpacking District. Last night the store held it’s grand opening party with a celeb studded guest list including Emma Roberts, Kelly Rutherford & Kaylee DeFer (Gossip Girl), Constantine Maroulis, Richie
Rich and more. Since I was a bit late arriving on the scene I think I missed out on the major red carpet action but that didn’t stop me from enjoying myself.IMAG3255IMAG3256
While listening to DJ Structure spin some upbeat takes on pop songs, the crowd was sipping Pom Cocktails or Milkshakes and snacking on cupcakes while perusing the merchandise.
IMAG3258IMAG3260IMAG3261
The store specializes in high-end denim and include prestigious brands like AG, DL1961, Henry & Belle, Hudson, J.Brand, Seven for All Mankind, DL 1961, Hudson, Citizens of Humanity, Paige Premium Denim, True Religion, Joe's, Theory, For Joseph, Splendid, SoLow, Hardtail, and Ella Moss.  The store also offers high-end fashion from the likes of Halston Heritage, Dylan Alexa, Patterson J. Kincaid, Joie and Feel the Pieces in the mix.  With it’s wide selection of denim and well educated staff Denim Habit offers women a very specialized and customer oriented shopping experience.
The space itself is long and narrow and features row upon row of perfectly organized denim in a rainbow of colors and finishes. The décor is minimal and the store has a clean open feel that focuses on making product easy to see.  Nothing is overcrowded and the lighting is bright and cheerful so that the differences in washes and tones are obvious.  If you are a fan of shops like Scoop and Intermix I am sure that Denim Habit will have a place in your rotation.

Blackberry Playbook Launch

Since I am currently an iPad user (thanks to FNO at Kate Spade) but not 100% convinced that it is the best touch device on the market, I really wanted to check out the Blackberry Playbook launch in person! Unfortunately, since it conflicted with my professional life I wasn’t able to attend. Fortunately I was able to send my fab cousin, Kevin Lee, to scope out the event and give me the inside scoop to all the happenings of the event. Check out his guest post below.

Arriving on the scene in the Meatpacking district to a dark building complete with a heavy set security guard out front was quite intimidating. It was also quite weird to be in front of a lounge in broad daylight and sober. As I entered the dark hallway I wondered what to expect from this Blackberry Playbook Press Event.

I was warmly greeted by Adriana, a friend of Erin’s who was very nice and smiley. I told her the situation - Erin can’t make it, so instead she sent her handsome, charming and quick witted (and single) cousin. I was ushered into the event room without a hitch. First thing I noticed was that by wearing a bright rainbow checkered shirt I stood out in a sea of New York black.

IMG_4606IMG_4623

The room looked nice and full of trees, hanging benches and lots of natural daylight - though surveying the room all I could see were suits, I guess most of the attendees were tech-savvy / business people, you know those non-artsy types who stress about numbers all day. So is BB’s first foray into the tablet market supposed to be aimed at these people? You know the ones that are anti-Apple but want to wait for the Blackberry brand cuz they are so addicted their Crackberry, sorry Android, you lose. We’d soon find out.

IMG_4607IMG_4608

With no cute boys to really ogle, I headed to the first place where I knew there had to be a hot guy - the bar. At these events the bartenders are always hot, and bartenders flirt with EVERYONE. No exception here - the bartender was sure a hottie, he was slinging out Blackberry inspired cocktails which were fruity and yummy. After quickly downing a cocktail I felt a bit more at ease.

IMG_4617IMG_4611

I pounced on Alex, a rep from Blackberry, to talk about the PlayBook and test it out firsthand. The first thing he showed me was the game Need For Speed. Really? A game? If he read me right the first thing he would’ve shown me is the new Lady Gaga video on YouTube or a Judy Garland performance. This tablet supports flash - so for those of you who have websites with flash, put away that iPad and flash (haha) one of these babies to show it off in full glory! (Note from Erin: While iPad’s don’t run flash but the YouTube app for iPad runs most YouTube videos without too many problems)

IMG_4629IMG_4626IMG_4625

The PlayBook is thinner than the iPad and also smaller (7-inch screen) which I found to be nicer than the iPad, as it could easily fit into one of my pockets (well one of my coat pockets). The back is a soft rubber, and not the shiny plastic variety that can get scratched up easily.

IMG_4615IMG_4622

Yet another advantage over the iPad? Two cameras – one in the back and one in the front, both shoot HD video. The back camera is 5 mega pixels while the front is 3 -not great but not bad either. Check out how the camera looks on the above left.

IMG_4616IMG_4628

While I think the touch screen sensitivity is a bit better on the iPad, PlayBooks will improve with future software upgrades. I’m also told that it will be much easier for developers to make applications for the Playbook as well. Currently Java support is in the works. Overall I was quite impressed with it, though personally I’d hold out for the new iPad 2 (because I love Apple and dislike everything else), but if you feel the same way about your Blackberry than this tablet is definitely for you. Also a great option if you’re looking for something a little more portable to take with you on the go.

With the hard part of my job finished I went back to the hottie bartender, stuffed my mouth with some delicious canapés, swigged another cocktail and headed out on my way. Blackberry Playbook, you were pretty cool, I’d touch you again for sure, call me.

Release date and pricing TBD.

Watch: Target Kaleidoscopic Fashion Spectacular

I found refuge at Brass Monkey from the madness of the street on Little West 12th tonight as the event found itself at triple over capacity! I arrived to scenesters and even adorable designer Prabal Gurung making his way into the event. Fortunately the good folks at La Force + Stevens were handing out binoculars for everyone to make sure that they could get a good view and enjoy the event. Fast Forward at a minute into the video clip to see the lights at their most Spectacular.

I overheard comments from all around at how uber impressed everyone was at the amazing show. Even our cynical bi-coastal friend was majorly awed at how it all came together. The choreography, music and attention to detail were evident. Many said that this was even better than the 4th of July. My neck was tired from straining up to see the even but it was definitely worth it. And while I missed the Fashion component from the street level show, everyone left feeling positive good vibes for Tarzhay!

Did you have a chance to catch the live stream at home? If so, what did you think?
PS. You can still catch it here if you missed it!

Tom's Barefoot Cocktail Party

Last week I had the unique opportunity to join in the TOMS shoes sponsored One Day Without Shoes festivities by stopping by the Charles Nolan boutique in the Meatpacking District. They were hosting a Barefoot Cocktail Party as part of worldwide events around the world that includes cities like Venice, Dubai and London.

The idea around ‘One Day Without Shoes’ is for people to realize how hard it is to live without shoes. TOMS Shoes’ founder and Chief Shoe Giver, Blake Mycoskie says, “A shoe company asking people to go barefoot? I know it’s odd, but we are so excited for people to once again join us in One Day Without Shoes. We ask people to go the day, part of the day, or even just a few minutes, barefoot, to experience what millions of children endure every day. Awareness and empathy are the catalysts of change.”

I ditched my ballet flats at the door and tested out the different surfaces set up for party goers to imagine life without shoes through dried grasses, rocks and moss. It was interesting to remember what so many people in the world experience on a daily basis as shoes really protect feet from elements, prevent disease and harm.

I have to say that it was quite the unique event as I'm not used to being barefoot in public, let alone somewhere in NYC, but I applaud TOMS for bringing awareness to the importance and value of footwear in the lives of so many in the world. TOMS was founded on a simple premise: For every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need.

TOMS are the super comfortable and lightweight shoes that have a heart. I'm sold! I'm definitely planning on purchasing a pair although I'm not sure what size to order. Anyone have experience with TOMS sizing?
