The Pink Wishbone Project–Cocktails & Designer Cushions

October ushers in Breast Cancer Awareness Month and last night I had a chance to celebrate one of my fave of the pink product with the Pink Wishbone Project at cocktail party inside Barney’s New York. For one year only, Hans Wegner’s famed Wishbone chair will be available to purchase in pink at Suite New York (a NYC furniture showroom) for the next year with 20% of the profits going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

To kick-off the launch, The Pink Wishbone Project got 20 of the world’s leading women interior designers to create one-of-a kind cushions for the chair. Labor Day Weekend Sales

This is the last weekend for the Barneys warehouse sale which ends on September 6, 2010. I stopped by earlier this week and the prices were slashed again! Here's a listing of what I scoped out for the men's section (the discounts apply to the lowest ticked price):

Also, if you sign up for a Barneys card - you'll receive an additional 10% off your purchase. If you're in the market for a suit - I highly recommend you checking out this sale! I scored a Hugo Boss suit that was initially 50% off, and then another 30% and then another 10% (for signing up for the card). In the end, the suit rang up to $345 which is a steal (originally $1100).

I ended up picking a pinstripe fabric - normally I'm not a huge fan of pinstriped suits since they have a tendency to remind me of PJ's but I really liked this when I tried it on. The stripes are thin and subtle so from a distance, the suit looks mostly like a solid color. I'm definitely going to check it out one more time and maybe pick up another suit since the price is amazing (keeping my fingers crossed that they will slash the prices again!).

If you're up planning to hit up this sale - be prepared to wait in line since usually the last weekend can get a bit crazy!

Sample Sale Report: Vena Cava

Stopped by the Vena Cava sale after work in hopes of finding a great sample but unfortunately was too late. The sample bit was quite ravaged and not much remained save for some odd chunky rib sweater tanks, a hoodie scarf and a t-shirt dress that was in need of some repair. Perhaps only 6 or 7 items left altogether but at $20 a pop I'm not surprised they were all gone.

The crowd was moderate so it made for easy shopping although there is no real changing area, most girls tried on just by the entry way near a large mirror.

The selection is limited to 5 racks but there is a great variety of styles and staff reports that additional sizes are available. Staff was friendly and helpful. Important to note that the sale is cash only for purchases under $300 and even if you use a credit card, credit card fees apply.

All belts and jewelry seem to have vanished by the time I got there just before closing. Shoes priced at just $75 are still available but with only 10 pairs or so left. They are various sizes from 6 1/2 to 10 but with a tendency to the upper end of the spectrum.

Super cute were these jersey tee-shirt dresses with great safetypin neck pieces attached! They were available in multiple sizes! These dresses are super lightweight and perfect for summer plus no think dressing as they come already accessorized and ready to go!

Also on this table were some black knit body con dresses that reminded me of the old 90210 for some reason (perhaps because I could totally picture Kelly wearing them!).

Small selection of Faux fur gillets, suede jackets with cropped sleeves and super cute assymetrical vests.

For screen printed tanks I only saw a handful of them and they were plain white racer back with black logo & graphic print that looked reminiscent of the Vena Cava x Gap collaboration. Also fun were the tees that looked like the edges were pierced by hoop earrings.

There were a few overstock styles from Barneys x Vena Cava exclusives available also.

Overall great prices and selection, although sizes tended to be on the small end. Mostly XS-Medium. Don't expect rock bottom prices but very reasonable for Vena Cava. Do check it out if you're a fan!

iWant: Bea Valdes Mombassa

As you probably realized, I am a sucker for shiny objects and "junk jewelry" is no exception, at least that's what I call pieces that aren't precious gems, gold and boring :) Although I'd hardly call these stunning pieces by Bea Valdes "junk". Bea Valdes is a Phillipines born handbag and jewelry designer whose fascination with embellishment from an early age lead her to start creating handbags experimentally in 2001. The detail is drool worthy but the prices are pretty prohibitive to me owning anytime the near future (at $750-1650, not to mention bespoke pieces). Right now I'm really feeling the Mombassa necklace pictured above! It's the perfect statement necklace that has a slight tribal feel.
