Now Listening: Blip Blip Bleep

Recommended If You Like: The Postal Service, LCD Soundsystem, Stars, Metric, The Bird and the Bee

I first heard of Blip Blip Bleep because a friend of mine had a brief stint in the band during their 2nd EP, Alarm Clock, Snooze Bar, Get Up. However, I soon found myself listening to the catchy electro tunes on repeat and knew that even had my friend not been in the band, I would still gladly attend their shows and listen to the music. The Brooklyn based trio consist of immensely talented producer Sean Han, singer/keyboardist Alexa Danner and drummer Jojo Schwarz.

Their debut LP, Like Track Stars just came out on June 29, 2010. And while I haven't had chance to check out the whole album yet, but I've been stuck on Freak You Out the past few weeks. While this may be Blip Blip Bleep's very first official music video but the simple concept was well done and definitely memorable. To hear more, you can stream tracks on myspace.com/blipblipbleep or click to download a free mp3 of Freak You Out.

For you New Yorkers to keep in mind, Blip Blip Bleep will be performing alongside Team Genius and Tenderbox at Mercury Lounge on September 9, 2010. PS. They are pretty adorable & awesome live!

Target Bullseye Bodega Press Party

Can someone please explain why Manhattan has two Kmarts but no Target? Yes, one is coming to Harlem, but not until 2009. Answering our prayers with a little tease, for four days in four locations, Target setup shop in Manhattan - pop-up retail locations dubbed Bullseye Bodegas. Before opening day, Target held a press party at their West 57th and 6th Avenue bodega.

The place was completely packed. The event was "press only", yet completely out of control. Reporters, journalists, crew, and plus ones waited in line for nearly an hour. Press were allowed to do some shopping, which kept the bodega at capacity.

Sigerson Morrison for Target.
The collection overall was disappointing in my opinion - some boring or tacky when not boring. However, the real suede heels and flats are worth looking into.

Anya Hindmarch for Target.
I was a bit worried about how this collection might turn out, considering how hard it can be to work with PVC. I didn't examine the bags too closely because I didn't want to tempt myself, but I will say that I was impressed. Way to go, Anya!

Jonathan Saunders for Target.
This picture is not the best example of the collection, but have no fear. Erin and I bought a few pieces each, and they will be in posts in the coming week.

Words cannot describe how excited I was for this collection to hit. I have always been a fan of bright colors and color blocking. Jonathan Saunders' use of colors and pattern is so fun and refreshing, modern yet retro. It took a lot of self-control to limit myself to only three pieces. My only negative notes are for the material and cut. A few of the pieces were cut a bit too boxy for my liking, and a number of the pieces were made of obviously cheap cotton that felt more like tissue paper than fabric. But hey, it's designer for less.

Because the event was so insane, no one was paying attention to the music. Such a shame because James Murphy is an amazing DJ, musician, and producer. Does LCD Soundsystem or DFA Records sound familiar?
