The Bird and The Bee are one of my favorite acts in music right now. They're an indie pop duo from Los Angeles with vocals and melodies that are so romantic and fun that you'll want to play vintage dress up. They've picked up quite a bit of buzz and been on a few soundtracks including Grey's Anatomy and The Sex and The City movie.
I first fell in love with them when their Again and Again and Again and Again EP was introduced to college radio in fall 2006. "Fucking Boyfriend" and "Again and Again" had me sold. In early 2007, they released their self-titled full length, which was equally amazing, and "Because" and "I Hate Camera" became new favorites.
The duo is back with a new full length, Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future - available now. I didn't think it was possible, but I love it even more than their debut. Their sound is still cute, but less cutesy, and more dynamic. Their single and standout track is "Love Letter to Japan". Check out the video below, and to stream that and other songs, visit their MySpace page.
I've seen them live a couple times, and they were wonderful both times. Imagine backup singers and adorable 1960's dresses. Lovely, just lovely! They're coming to New York on March 7. They have a few other east coast dates, as well as two southern California shows.
