NYC Sample Sales: January 6-12, 2014
Happy New Year! Hope that you had a wonderful one spending it with your friends and family. I spent my holidays in Dallas/Fort Worth and Toronto and made it back in time to beat the storm Hercules into town. After some family time and rest I was excited be back at home and sleeping in my own bed again. Despite the comforts of home, 2014 decided to kick me in the bottom, literally. After catching a cold and falling down some subway stairs in a clumsy desire to get back in the rush of things, I've spent the weekend feeling sluggish with bruised bottom to boot. Guess maybe 2014 is a time to take time and remember to take things slower. Sample sales thankfully are off to a slow start this year but there are still a few to look forward to in the next couple weeks.

Inside Designer Sketchbooks FW 2010

I honestly don't like to pay too close attention to the news on a daily basis (excluding the fashion & food world) because most of the time it it can be a bit depressing. I do randomly look at daily papers while I commute so I won't be completely clueless about the world.
The other day was just one such morning I was glad I looked! am New York featured some illustrations by various designers that showed a peek of what is to come starting today + some quotes about their inspiration. I love looking at illustration sometimes even more than looking at photos. There is so much feeling and thought with each line and I love how illustrations often reflect something about the designers themselves or their ideal woman.
To note, I love how Erin Fetherson's figure even resembles her! Jill Stuart & Herve Leger look to be sexy with an attitude. Vivienne Tam and Brian Reyes looks similarly sculptural and simplified, I'm interested in seeing the different execution of the real garmnts. The Tibi girls look to be funky and adorable. DKNY appears to be New York glam and cool but her figure looks a little shy and humble too. Pamela Roland and Edition by Georges Chakra look elegant, mysterious and untouchable. Do these sketches speak to you?

iWant Hervé Léger Multifacted Oval Clutch

The clutch I want is from Hervé Léger's spring 2009 collection. I fell in love the first time I saw it, but since it retails for $598 I forced myself to move on. Months later I find myself still lusting after the darn thing, so I figure it's time for an overdue iWant post.
It's cute, geometric and comes in bright, bold colors. How could one resist? Oh, right, I need to eat and pay rent. If I was a baller or had some extra cash, I'd definitely go for the lime green clutch. What color would you pick?

Mark My Words, Designer to Watch: Mark Fast
Canadian born Mark Fast was one to watch at London Fashion Week! The knitwear designer was one of 2 that passed the New Generation selection committee this season.
And boy did he knit up a storm. Thuderstorms to be exact! He tells Style.com that his collection is about "that moment of fear and negativity, mixed with something that also feels beautiful."
If you're a fan of sexy, edgy body con in the vein of Azzedine Alaïa or Hervé Leger with and edgy kick, he's one to be on your radar.
Also, to note he hand knits each piece on a knitting machine, so no mass produced stuff here...which is kinda beautiful...but DARN! Not coming to my closet any time soon!
