Runway Review: Edition by Georges Chakra FW2010

I had the opportunity to check out Edition by Georges Chakra Fall 2010 Collection at Bryant Park. This was only the third ready-to-wear collection by the Couturier. I was a little distracted as there was a super fan in the seat next to me who ooohed and aahed at almost every look, but I still was able to enjoy the show.

This collection still as posh as the Fall 2009 collection but with a greater focus of tailoring. The first couple looks were bright crepe sheaths that had a slightly bondage insipired edge.

Then the show shifted to a fair share of cocktail frocks and gowns for the party girl and socialite. Black ruffle numbers, pewter taffeta, lace and chiffon floated down the runway. There was also a fair amount of gold, silver and red. Gloves were key in a majority of looks, I particularly liked the lace versions.

Many of the tailored looks were plays on the tuxedo, an hommage to the designer's love of YSL? Perhaps trying to take fashion forward by wearing jackets backwards? The results were interesting but perhaps not for everyone.

Cutouts and back details like lace inset panels, rhinestone bows were an important feature in many of the dresses and added a sexy edge that is sure to make a grand exit. I have a fondness for back details as it adds a bit of unexpected flair and shows the designer is interested in design from a 360 degree thorough standpoint.

The show finished with some showstopper gowns that are bound to make a red carpet appearance in the near future by the designer's celebrity following.

Inside Designer Sketchbooks FW 2010

I honestly don't like to pay too close attention to the news on a daily basis (excluding the fashion & food world) because most of the time it it can be a bit depressing. I do randomly look at daily papers while I commute so I won't be completely clueless about the world.

The other day was just one such morning I was glad I looked! am New York featured some illustrations by various designers that showed a peek of what is to come starting today + some quotes about their inspiration. I love looking at illustration sometimes even more than looking at photos. There is so much feeling and thought with each line and I love how illustrations often reflect something about the designers themselves or their ideal woman.

To note, I love how Erin Fetherson's figure even resembles her! Jill Stuart & Herve Leger look to be sexy with an attitude. Vivienne Tam and Brian Reyes looks similarly sculptural and simplified, I'm interested in seeing the different execution of the real garmnts. The Tibi girls look to be funky and adorable. DKNY appears to be New York glam and cool but her figure looks a little shy and humble too. Pamela Roland and Edition by Georges Chakra look elegant, mysterious and untouchable. Do these sketches speak to you?
