Anna Sui x Target Preview: Not all Gossip Girl?

Back in May, we reported that Anna Sui would be the next guest designer for Target's Designer Collaboration which will be hitting stores on September 13, 2009. Looks leaked onto the internet over the weekend for the Gossip Girl inspired collab of 19 looks.

While I agree some looks are definitely inspired by the show, others I can't quite understand or see the characters wearing. Perhaps as Nylon Mag reported today, perhaps some of these looks are actually inspired by Anna's past runway collections?

Blair - Love look 3 and I can totally see Blair rocking look 4 but look 5 comes off as a bit too matronly for Blair and look 2 is a bit too bohemian for Blair.

Serena - Definitely not enough cleav for Serena, love look 3 but can't see Serena in it, or in look 4, which is way too covered up, maybe she would wear it without the tee?

Vanessa - What's the deal with the puffer vest in look 1? Love look 2 and the blouse is cute in look 3. I'm not sure Vanessa would do the track jacket in look 4.

Jenny - Sure she's been kinda rocker girl grungesque on the show but look 4? Really??? Also, think look 2 is too boho for Jenny and look 5 doesn't really seem quite Jenny either. Perhaps it's the off the shoulder? Although the skirt shape might be her ;).

Teal blue romper - vintage
Navy woven belt - secondhand
Brown woven flats - Jeffrey Campbell
Yellow bangle - Forever 21
The weather today was amazing! It actually felt like summer. In celebration of BBQ-worthy weather and pride, I decided to pull out the romper. I found it almost five years ago at a vintage warehouse in LA, and it kicked off my one-piece obsession.

I had a busy weekend. Billy Elliot on Broadway, arepas at Caracas, dessert & wine at Chikalicious (thank you to Seijen & Chika), shopping in Soho, dancing in Lower East Side, late night falafel in East Village, waking up after only 4.5 hours of sleep, High Line Park in the morning, errands and BBQ til sundown. I'm wiped out.

Hope you had a good weekend!

Sample Sale Report: Alice + Olivia

Stopped by the Alice + Olivia Sale on my way from home from work and I was less than thrilled. There was still plenty of merch but much of it didn't look fresh or exciting. The prices while not horrible, are still pretty steep for this brand in comparision to other sample sales with a similar brand aesthetic.

The best deals by far were on the leggings and body suits at $9 a pop, but there was not really selection. They were thrown between 2 boxes. Leggings available mostly in neon pink nylon, tube top cut body suits in mostly yellow or brown, saw a random black version but it felt like it fit weird when I tried it on.

Only shoes I saw were Payless and there were 3 boxes containing 3 styles thrown together of neon trimmed flats or leopard or spotted crazy high platforms.

There was 1 rack of children's clothing it was really cute but $59 seems pretty steep for something that they will outgrow so quickly.

There was 1 rack of Maxi dresses, but not too interesting. I guess to note the sequins dresses would be a good buy but only a handful of them are left in black, and a few pink sequin or white striped sequined dresses remain.

One style that was a plenty? Polka dotted jersey halter dresses and swimsuits took up 2 racks.

I wouldn't go out of my way to check this one out unless they slash prices.

Now Wearing...

Black crop jacket - BB Dakota
Brown tank - Mossimo, Target
Cream lace skirt - H&M, which I shortened and turned into a bubble skirt
Brown woven flats - Jeffrey Campbell
Green bag - Gryson for Target
Eyeglasses - Alain Milki
Necklaces & bracelets - Forever 21

I really love lace in cream, so I bought these skirt even though it was originally completely unflattering. It hit me at the knees and was a bit frumpy making me look short and stumpy. I fixed it up by folding the bottom under and loosely stitching it to create some bounce and volume. You can't tell so much from the front, but the silhouette from the side is pretty fun.

Completely unrelated, but I have to share. Last night I saw a stripper pole with a live stripper on the back of a moving vehicle on 17th St. A couple blocks later on 6th Ave I saw Nicholas Cage filming "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". I love this city!

Remembering an Icon: Michael Jackson

Can't believe that Michael Jackson is no longer with us, he passed away today of a reported Cardiac Arrest at the young age of 50. What remains now is his undying influence on music, pop culture and fashion.

He was always ahead of the game, influencing an entire generation during the 80s and continuing to inspire designers and shows including the sequin gloves at Louis Vuitton and the crystalized jackets that sparked Balmainia. In fact, he was even seen spotted wearing Balmain in his final days. Though I'm saddened by the loss, I can't help but reminisce over his incredible impact on style.

Looking back over the years, here are just a handful of looks he's helped inspire:

Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 vrs MJ's Iconic Glove
Balmain's Spring 2009 Military inspired Jacket, MJ's many military jackets

Alexandre Herchcovitch's Joy shoes for Melissa, MJ's Moonwalking Loafers & Sequin Socks

Buckle Boots at Balmain Fall 2009, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2008, MJ's Buckled Legs

Red Leather and Zippers at Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Fall 2009. MJ's Red Leather Beat It Jacket

Countless celebs including Justin Timberlake can be seen sporting Fedora's these days, MJ has been sporting them since the 80s

Who can forget MJ's eyewear of choice? The aviators, a now classic.

RIP Michael (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)
