Shopping Steal: Mike & Chris

There's a pretty ridiculous Mike & Chris sale over at badjoan.com. Thanks to Tamar at Fashion Binge for the tip! Here are a few of my picks.

Huxley Blouse $55, retail $250

Both pieces are nice basics. The green blouse is obviously fit for work or even just everyday, and the gray crop jacket is definitely something I would own. It'd be great for wearing over tanks and dresses and would be super cute with long gloves in the fall. It's probably not the most practical for New York since we only have a few weeks of true fall weather, but people in warmer part of the country, get on this.

This dress is simple and elegant and would look great with tights for fall, and it has pockets! And speaking of pockets, I love that this hoodie has side pockets rather than the standard front pocket.

Is Mike & Chris Going Out of Business?

I'm so confused. Is Mike & Chris going out of business? There were some rumors back in November, but the PR person issued a press release saying they were just rumors and the business was doing well. So I let out a sigh of relief and went back to my merry ways.

Four months later, I get an email from Daily Candy LA with "Mike & Chris Going Out of Business Sale". What?! They recently expanded into shoes. Could they really be going on? Even though I only own one piece, Mike & Chris is one of my favorite labels.

If you're in southern California, please hit up this sale because I can't.

Sample Sale Report

On my way home from work I stopped by a few sales and here's my take on 2 Sales that aren't over yet.

Mike & Chris, despite rumors last month is not shutting doors, but just signed on with Green Mochi Inc in a licensing agreement. This partnership will allow the designers to focus on the design element while Green Mochi will take care of the business element. Green Mochi also works with contemporary label Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent. Hence Mike & Chris joined forces with Cynthia Vincent for quite an amazing Sample Sale! When I hit the sale there was still quite a lot of stock left.

The other sale I went to was at the Globe Showroom because I wanted to see the new line I love Bensoni and I was hoping for great prices considering they are still relatively unknown. Unfortunately the prices are still too high for a sample sale given the current market. It didn't feel like a real sample sale, but the showroom and the merchandise was beautiful. Here's prices as I remember:

CANCELLED - Mike & Chris Sample Sale

In an completely unprecedented move, the California based brand Mike & Chris have cancelled their New York Sample Sale that was scheduled to begin yesterday without warning. Shoppers who hiked all the way to 10th Avenue with the promise of 75% off on fleeces, bags, and leather goods were sorely disappointed and left with only the above sign instead.

The cancellation led to speculation that Mike & Chris was going under, with rumors of unstability and unpaid staff.

A Mike & Chris rep released the below statement:

"Mike & Chris is very much still in business, now and moving forward. The sample sale was canceled due to a very unfortunate error in shipping and will be rescheduled within the next 4-6 weeks. They are incredibly sorry about any inconveniences by those who went to the sale."

I'm not sure what shipping error could cause a sample sale to be delayed 4-6 weeks, unless they are planning on transporting good cross-country on bicycle? In all my sample sale experience, a cancelled sale? This is a first!
