NYFW Runway Review: Farah Angsana Fall 2012

The Farah Angsana Fall 2012 collection exuded exactly the type of luxury that the young jet set socialite might demand. Opulence, sparkle and drama dominated the runway - this is not clothing for the faint of heart or for those who like to hide in a corner at an event.  If fashion should be about empowering a woman to feel beautiful and glamorous - Farah Angsana has found strength in what she knows best.  Afterall the designer caters to women who like herself travel the world and you could see hints of the global influence in the kaftans to flamenco flounces.

So we've been to Farah Angsana for the past number of seasons and the clothes have always been demure, elegant and beautiful.  This season marked a change from all of that.  If the music thumping from the DJ booth was any indication we were in for a change.  Hip shaking world beats in combination with a mysterious warm breeze made me feel as though I was on vacation from my ordinary New York City life.  I found myself relaxing and all the pressures of the day melting away.  And soon after I found myself wanting to get up and dance.

The first look that sashayed down the runway was a super luxe fur coat to music that I think was from Kill Bill. Pretty covered up until the model hit the end of the runway and the fur coat came off in a dramatic fashion revealing a tiny sparkling little swimsuit.  It was a clear message that things were going to be different, things are going to be a sexier and bolder than ever before.

There was a Bond girl sort of appeal to the clothing that was further played up by sexy masks over the eyes of several of the looks. Micro mini lengths, flowing skirts with thigh high slits or mermaid effects also played into the look.  Ms Angsana also brought “Sexy Back” with beautiful plunging backs that are sure to stop men dead in their tracks.

I also appreciated the less sharply tailored pieces that screamed more daytime spy.  Especially the piece that has a cape tailored over sleeves.  So covered up but so seductive.  The in keeping with the bold new silhouettes predominant color story was black, silver/grey,gold, cobalt, chocolate and siren red.

The rest of the show was high energy and dress after gorgeous dress had me thinking that Farah Angsana is about to become a red carpet fave.  There was a dress for Beyoncé, a dress for even Ms Britney Spears and plenty of other concoctions in between.

NYFW Spring 2011: Farah Angsana

Every Farah Angsana show makes me wishing everyday was a cocktail party or charity ball. The spring 2011 presentation was not exception. The collection was full of stunning cocktail dresses and evening gowns. Farah Angsana's Indonesian inspiration and ethnic chic style really shined.

You know I'm a sucker for prints, especially anything slightly tribal.

These two neutral numbers were my favorites. I loved that she used subtle colors and impeccable detail to create incredibly glamorous looks.

The collection also included some cooler blue tones.

But of course, my favorites are Farah Angsana's signature gold and jewel toned pieces. The shine, the glamor, the elegance! I especially loved the way her longer dresses flowed as the models walked down the runway. This spring collection was truly lovely and should be on every girly girl's wish list.

Runway Review: Farah Angsana FW2010

As much of a daze that I've been in the past 24 hours, I was temporarily snapped out of it when I arrived to the Farah Angsana and found that Lani and I had seats with our names and Sugar Rock Catwalk typed out. It was nice to be legit and not just another guest.

It was a full house in the tents and I waited in anticipation to see what the Swiss designer would have in store for us. The clothing that I found was what I would wear if I was a socialite or if I frequented galas.

The clothing was definitely eye catching in an array of jewel tones from hot pink, ruby red, violet, cobalt complimented by silver, pewter and gold. Opulent sparkle was a must and sparkling embellishment dripped down gowns and a generous amount crystals sprinkled tailored pieces.

Movement was important with many of these pieces with swathes of chiffon or feathers that float around as you walk making sure that you'll make quite the entrance.

The pieces that had sheer sleeves or yokes were amongst my favorite pieces.

The Farah Angsana collection also featured some luxe fur pieces as accompaniments to the dresses. The Golden Fox Fur cropped jacket complimented the caramel tones of the dress nicely.

I thought that red cocktail dress with matching jacket was adorable and would be great on a young celeb for a premiere event.

As much as I didn't think my heart was in NYFW after yesterday's tragic news, thank you Farah Angsana for the sumptuous, floating and sparkling glamor. Glamor goes a long way on a cold winter day.
