Sample Sale Report: Fenton/Fallon July 2012

UPDATE: As per Fenton/Fallon's Twitter SALE CLOSED EARLY at 2PM today.

The Fenton/Fallon Sample Sale is one that I make sure that I never miss.  While much of the merchandise moved earlier during the day I went after work at 6:45pm to a much quieter showroom with only a few other shoppers in the spacious well lit space.

While you could snag lapel pins for as little as $10, most of the merchandise was priced starting at $40 plus.  Prices reached up to $120 for the Fenton merchandise and most pieces were individually labelled with price stickers.  If you happen to like a piece you have to act quickly because most merchandise at the sale is a one-off or available in small quantities (ie. 2-3 of any piece).  Since all merchandise is currently on the floor what you see here in these photos are a good indication what is left.

Sample Sale Report: Fenton/Fallon

When it comes to jewelry I am more than a little obsessed with Dana Lorenz's bold statement making pieces.  Both her Fenton and Fallon lines have a way of balancing the perfect amount of sparkle with industrial grit that looks just about perfect for any occasion.

I stopped by her sample sale today and was perfectly pleased to find an amazing selection of new glamtastic creations to hold my eye in wonder and all at pretty amazing prices.  Nothing tops $100 at this sample sale and you better move quickly because although the sample sale was a veritable calm bustle during my visit her pieces always move FAST.

While prices start at $10 for chunky multi chain plastic necklaces and $20 for tortoise bracelets but my heart doesn't really start to pound until you get into at least the $30 category where statement rings beg to live on my fingers.  The $50 category will take you into some eye popping cocktail rings while the $60 category yields some fantastic chain dripping cuffs. $70 will take you into a fantastic assortment of chain heavy necklaces.  If you are willing to drop $90-100 you won't be sorry because those glorious Fenton necklaces can be yours for the keeping.

Fallon: Men's Accessories Launch

Last fall I posted about the upcoming men's accessory line from Fallon. So here's a quick peek at the new collection which I was able to view at the Fenton/Fallon sample sale last week. While they ran out of the Tim Hamilton pieces before I got there, this personal preview of the line more than made up for it!

Most of the pieces were in a brushed or oxidized silver and had great hardware. Spikes were also prevalent. Larger ones formed part of the body of the piece while smaller ones are tacked on the the closure which I thought was a subtle touch.

There were also a couple chunky linked metal bracelets as well as some thinner options and an enameled cuff. In general, the line's aesthetic is on point with Lorenz's women's counterpoints and maintains a rocker/punk edgy vibe while avoiding tackiness - I'm definitely a fan!

While I was deciding on what piece to grab, I took note of the python covered table the pieces were set up on! It was mesmerizing and just made the collection look that much better. On a side note, the staff at the Fenton/Fallon showroom were amazing and took the time to lay all the pieces out for me on a separate table away from the sample sale so I could browse in peace.

By the end of it, I decided on this necklace. The hardware is subtle and the toggle bar can be maneuvered around for various placements (I have a thing for versatile pieces that can be worn in multiple ways).

Unfortunately, the piece that I was really looking to snag wasn't available at the showroom - it's a leather bound chain with two colors of leather woven into the chain. It's 18" in length so it can be worn as a necklace or bracelet if you double up on your wrist. Luckily, I was able to call in and place a personal order for it =]

Sample Sale Report: Fenton-Fallon April 2011

So today during lunch I had the chance to swing by the Fenton-Fallon Sample Sale between bites of my Pret Sandwich! I made my way all the way to near 9th Avenue to find myself in a brightly lit showroom and a complete change of pace from the usual Fenton-Fallon sales that happen at the LES Boutique.  It gave me a chance to get to the sale a bit earlier than previously but still not early enough to beat the morning crowds of jewelry hungry fans that sought out bargains and wiped out the entire Tim Hamilton section.  So this sale has no men’s jewelry, however our menswear correspondent, Jeff Cheung, did get the sales associates to sell to him the yet to be released new current season pieces at retail.

amples started at just $10 and I saw the Judy Jetson space age earrings that I spotted at a previous sample sale for $40 a pop!  Also a couple of those uber sparkly crystal necklaces and a few pearl/rhinestone rings for $10.  Since they weren’t necessarily iconically in the style of Fenton/Fallon I passed.

At the $20 ottoman there were various plastic chain necklaces, ball chain necklaces and rings that were pyramid stud looks or crystal and geometric disk looks that covered a couple fingers.

The sale was neatly organized into pricing categories that moved up as you moved left.  Everything was neatly laid out and pricing was indicated by stickers that tagged each item.  From the $30 table you’ll see various natural shell necklaces and tassel looks in addition to cuffs and rhinestone necklaces.

In the $40 section there were many super fun sparkly dangly slightly 80s looking earrings and you begin getting into some of the iconic tangled chain looks and some fun candy pop plastic looks as well.  I really liked the chain and pearl combinations for a edge on lady-like.

In the $50 category there were a few bead and chain bib necklaces, one of which I snagged left and some more candy pop jewelry in addition to fringe rhinestone necklaces and geometric mesh chain and gem earrings.  The $60 category yielded some fun textural feather looks in addition to an amazing crystal locket cuff and a plastic/chain combo necklace.

The $80 category yielded some newer more detailed pieces that had more fringe, lace or other pieces going on.

Finally if you are not a girl on a budget the Fenton pieces that were on hangers and a rolling rack were going for $100 a pop and some were absolutely gorgeous.

A definite must if you are a fan of bold, glam rock jewelry that is sure to get you noticed.  Also a must if you are like myself are a fan of the 80s/early 90s style.  Move quickly because the jewelry is going fast!

Sample Sale Report: Fenton/Fallon

After the last Fenton/Fallon Sample sale where I picked up my beloved eagle ring that I wear practically everyday, when I heard another sale was on the radar I was absolutely determined to pick up some more of designer Dana Lorenz’s creations to add to my jewelry wardrobe. These days with my closet at point of critical condition unless I purge, I’ve turned my eye towards tinier objects to fascinate me.

I made my way down Freeman Alley just before 7pm and getting there always feels like I’m headed on a mini NYC adventure (to enter, you actually have to walk on Rivington St between Chrystie & Bowery into the end of the alley way and make a right after the brick wall that has “FENTON” written on it. This time around the sale was quite busy and there were easily 15-20 people in the boutique at any given time browsing the selection and viewing possible purchases in one of 3 mirrors that were sectioned together on a wall.

When you enter the sale the more affordable items are starting at your left there was a small selection of goodies at just $10. Mostly bangles I’d seen at the last sample sale and random one-earrings that could be fun on their own.Next off is a selection of sparkling rhinestone earrings for just $30. These are so glam rock 80s. The make me think of Jem and the Rockers.Beside it are some fun gem earrings for $20 and magnetic necklaces that make disco shine around your face for $25. These disco necklaces kept disappearing then reappearing as people were narrowing down their purchases throughout the night. Also great snake earrings for $25 with rhinestone heads.The table on the right yielded some statement necklaces and I was admiring and contemplating the tribal bib necklaces that I passed up on last time around. Now they are priced at $60. Bracelets $50, headbands $55, earrings $50.I thought these space age looking earrings were pretty fantastic and they were $40 a pair.Plenty of $35 cuffs caught my attention. There were many of the classic pyramid versions from last sale, but plenty of new varieties to behold my attention. I couldn’t resist the tribal bird like cuff with pyramids in the bottom right corner. Apparently no one else could either because the 3 or 4 on display seemed to vanish by the end of the sale.On the shelf above larger more elaborate bracelets and cuffs were going for $50.

There was also a small selection of vintage clothing for 60% off that I didn’t pay much mind to and amazing Fenton necklaces (the higher end line) for $125 (slashed from $175 previously in the day). These are slightly more elaborate and very chain heavy designs.It took me a while to realize what these pieces are – were they bones, random shapes or what? Then it came to me suddenly - they are ram’s heads! This amazing and original necklace was $50. There was only 1 left when I was leaving.The final temptation? This bowl of rings that was right by the cash for just $25 a pop. My beloved eagle was in there, in addition to some LOVE rings, locket rings and great dark metal band with single round pyramid that I almost picked up.

So as I was checking out, I noticed that if you were paying cash, it’s a lot faster to get through the line. Otherwise there is a bit of a line. But it was totally understandable after the after work crowd made their way to the sale about the same time and was all queuing to cash out.

They will not be re-stocking and the sale is currently about 60%+ sold through, but there is still plenty to love. Make your way quickly for best selection.

Sample Sale Report: Fenton/Fallon

I was waiting anxiously all week for the Fenton/Fallon Sample sale as their jewelry is fun, bold and easy to wear. I didn't make it there until about 6pm but there was still plenty for me to admire. However, I have a feeling a lot of merch was already wiped out by the time I got there. Despite the rain there were girls coming in to check out the sale at a steady rate. It was by not crowded but there were about 10 other people browsing.

The tables seemed sparse so you should definitely hurry if you hope to snatch up any of these pieces at below wholesale prices!

$80 Table, mostly one off pieces. I think the Cairo bib on the right retails for $385 but was selling for $80.

Rings for $30. I had to pick up the eagle as it is so unique and adds a tough flair to your everyday look! I also loved the snake ring. The claw ring and LOVE ring were also pretty great. I believe these rings normally retail for $88-100

More rings and earrings that varied in price $30-60.

$35 pieces included a couple pretty amazing chain necklaces. I wish I had bought the colorful one actually but I'm trying to be good about my budget.

The $15 section included many simple bangles but as they look great in multiples, it could definitely add up quickly.

$40 & $50 items included rhinestone earrings, arrow necklaces, cuffs and classic studded bangles.

There was a large selection of large bangles in assorted finishes for $40.

These bib collar necklaces were stunning and $60 each

Only a couple of these necklaces left at $55 a pop.

There was also a small selection of clothing but I didn't notice much of it. These tees were $50 each.

Bottom line if you want some fun, bold and unique jewelry that won't break the bank you should definitely head over but fast because this stuff is flying out! The eagle ring and the bangles in particular have been great sellers.
