R&eM Launch at Macy’s

Last week I stopped by Macy’s Herald Square for the exclusive launch of the brand new under $100 accessories line, R&eM, which made it's Spring 2011 debut exclusively at Macy’s and Macy’s.com. The line combines elements of design (chain strap, studs, and familiar shapes) that we love from some of the industry’s top designer's at affordable price points that any woman can enjoy. The premise behind the line is to capture the energy of the trend-setting youth, R&Em is the fun, flirty, friendly brand for women ages 16-30. Prices range from $15 for small leather goods to $58 for small bags and max out at $88 for larger totes.

To help celebrate the launch blogger, Keiko Lynn of KeikoLynn.com was chosen as the face of the brand. I’ve met Keiko Lynn over the course of the last year at various blogging events while crafting cards and decorating cookies, so I was really excited that someone who is so down-to-earth, sweet and relatable was chosen to represent the brand. She took me through the line and she’s pictured above holding her personal fave from the Spring collection. One of the things that she made sure to note was that the collection is actually Vegan and how rare it was to be able to find stylish Vegan accessory pieces that don’t look like they are “Vegan”.

I have to agree that despite the use of PVC instead of leather the bags don’t scream plastic. Although I am partial to the buttery soft leather handbags – R&eM is definitely a great affordable option for anyone looking to add fun, affordable and stylish accessories to their wardrobe. What do you think of the new line?

Look Inside the Tents

Friends are always asking me what it's like "inside the tents" of Fashion Week. Well, here are a few photos from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with the help of our photographer friend James S. Rand.
Every Fashion Week, there are red dresses to raise awareness for heart disease as it is the number one killer of women. Go red for women!

And every year, there are of course beautiful new cars. This year we got to pose in front of one.
We should be models right? It snapped this at the end of a very long day.
The tents aren't always this crowded, but on the weekends and in the evenings for the bigger shows, Lincoln Center does get quite busy - if not utterly insane!

Fashion Week is always an amazing experience, and I am thankful for the shows and presentations that Sugar Rock Catwalk was able to cover!

Mackage Fall 2011

Mackage was another show that I was super stoked to be attending. After a long week I made my way over to the Studio after work for 9pm. As soon as I got into the center - I got a boost of energy - probably because Mackage is one of my all time favorite lines for outerwear and makes me proud to be Canadian!

For menswear - there were a few more casual pieces this collection which included a fur lined parka, varsity type jackets with leather sleeves, and a slightly puffy wool coat for added warmth. As always, Mackage's construction is solid, their lines are clean and their detailing subtle with the ability to make a statement. I usually pick up one jacket a season - but I'm not sure what to get this time....at least I have 1/2 a year to decide!

Similar to the mens's outerwear, the women's pieces were a bit more casual than previous seasons with a move away from their traditional wools and leathers into other textiles including fur.

In terms of the RTW, I noticed quite a few pieces with strong shoulder lines paired with sleek silhouettes. The creme colored blouse on the bottom right with pleated details had great movement on the runway and looked amazing.

What I appreciate the most in the RTW collection is the fit of the garments. Similar to their outerwear counterparts, the clothes hug in all the right places and look oh so sleek and elegant.

Norman Ambrose Fall 2011

I was instantly dazzled the moment we stepped into the box for Norman Ambrose; it was as if we had entered a dazzling 70s party. I love disco music, and nothing makes my heart flutter quite like sequins and feathers.
Norman Ambrose's debut presentation had a clear point of view. He designs for the sophisticated woman - a woman who probably has an amazing walk-in closet and hat boxes. I loved the way he used sequins, fur and ostrich feathers and something encrusted garments to create a collection that was both glamorous and elegant.
With the exception of one sheer top, most pieces were demure - higher necklines, knee-length hems, pant suits, etc. This collection made us think a bit of Chloe Fall 2010 with the neck tie blouses and 70s tan, but the Norman Ambrose touch is one of extravagance. I loved all the fine details, and I can only imagine how much work went into each garment with all of the patchwork and beading.
It was a strong NYFW debut from Norman Ambrose. I wish him all the best and look forward to seeing more!
