Sample Sale Report: Vivienne Tam April 2011

Checked out the Vivienne Tam Sample Sale over lunch today and although there were about 10 or so shoppers, the sale was relatively quiet, with room to maneuver and navigate yourself to one of the 6 mirrors around the floors. Be warned as there are no fitting rooms, so this sample sale is not for the shy, although you could always don the ubiquitous sample sale uniform (leggings & tank top) to try things over. As always staffers were friendly and greeting everyone with a smile. There is a coat/large bag check but it’s optional to check purses.

As soon as you enter the sale at the front desk there are 6 styles of shoes that are only $60 a pop. They sizes range from 36-39 depending on the style but if you are a 38 or 39 you wil have better luck with the sizes. They are also selling Cotton Butterfly scarves for $15 and peony print bags for $30. A sign reminding you to pick up your Mother’s Day gift seems to be a good idea.

There also is a Tee for Japan that is still unavailable but you can pre-order it fro $25 a pop. All profits from this tee will go towards the Japanese Red Cross.

Chinese Character Tee $30, was $195. Butterfly Blouse $90, Was $350. Mesh Blouse $50, was $285

Flower Tank $25, was $95. Current Season Blouse $180, was $295. Eyelet Halter $80, was $230

Ruffle Blouse $90, was $260. Current Season Dress $395, was $575. Current Season Dress $395, was $595.

Current Season Dress $395, was $595. Butterfly Dress $180, was $530. Tee Dress $40, was $160.

So for the dresses there were plenty of racks across a variety of sizes. The most prevalent being the small size (0-2) with about 5 racks of dresses, Size Medium (4-6) with 4 racks of dresses and Size Large (8-10) with 4 racks of dresses. Prices varied from $40 you could snag a Tee shirt dress with shoulder treatment or for $180 (down from $53) you could snag a signature butterfly printed stretch satin number from Spring 2010. The sample sale also hosted some current season Spring 2011 merchandise which although significantly is more than the older stock, is still a great discount from current store pricing. The dresses that were in this category retail for $595, but at the sample sale are available for $395 a pop. The embroidered lace and macramé rope detailing make this merchandise look really fresh and special.

Embroidered Cut Out Dress $195, was $495. Fishscale Jacket $180, was $750. Butterfly Print Dress $120, was $440

Sequin Tee Dress $120, was $285. Pop Tee Dress $120, was $180. Cut Out Dress $235, was $795

Many of the simpler dresses I liked were hovering in the $120 area while other dresses with extreme ornate embellishment or detail were $195-235.

Denim Jacket $250, was $495. Current Season Jacket $350, was $495. Cutout Jacket $60, was $395

There wasn’t a huge selection of jackets at this sale and I only spotted about a couple racks of assorted sizes this time around at the sample sale. However, every jacket had interesting detail on them.

Leopard Blazer $150, was $495. Palm Skirt $120, was $350. Butterfly skirt $90, was $360.

Current Season Skirt $180, was $295. Dove top $90, was $200. Graphic Tee $40, was $180.

Some of the older merchandise has been marked down several times already and you could even find yourself a cut-out blazer for just $60! Many of the skirts hovered in the $90 category but for more ornate versions would go up to $120 while current season skirts were $180.

If you are looking for detail-oriented luxe occasion wear, this would be a great sale to pick up some things with so many great unique dresses that beg to be taken out on the town or to a wedding. Or if you are a fan of bright digital prints or multi-textured daywear. In any scenario if you want to get noticed in a good way, this is your sale. Also make sure you sign up for the mailing list to have a chance to win a pair of Butterfly Monster earbuds!
