Uniqlo Designer Invitation Project: Spring 2011

Uniqlo is back in the designer collaboration game this Spring with the continuation of it’s Designer Invitation Project that will include 9 new collaborations. Amongst the collaborators, 3 New York based design firms have been chosen to create a 6-piece capsule collection including the return of Brooklyn sweethearts Costello Tagliapietra on April 21, 2011 followed by Charlotte Ronson on May 5, 2011 and Vena Cava on May 12, 2011. Each piece will retail for $29.99 each and will be on sale until May 21, 2011. Zechia, Tiny Dinosaur, Suzuki Takayuki, Theatre Products, Nine and Double Standard Clothing make up the balance of the contributors.

Ronson tells WWD ,“Since it’s hitting in spring, we focused on jersey and knits. I usually do a lot more wovens, so it was nice to work around lots of different jerseys. The feel was a seaside retreat, with coastal countryside as well as nautical influences and whimsical prints.”
My thoughts are that since Stripes continue to reign this Spring until polka dots will take over, the Ronson collaboration is a cute take on a classic look. Particularly digging the whimsical sail boats on the halter dress and the printed trapeze tank dress.

Costello Tagliapietra:

With it’s easy elegant silhouettes the Costello Tagliapietra collection for Uniqlo is a no-brainer.  Dolman sleeve tee-shirt dresses never looked so right.  My personal fave is the tie front v-neck and the asymmetrical sleeve dress.  I’ll be saving my pennies to stock up for summer!  Since some of the Costello Tagliapietra pieces from last round have become my summer wardrobe staples, I’ll be there on April 21.

Vena Cava:

With it’s quirky cool aesthetic and feminine sporty attitude, some of these Vena Cava pieces are right up my alley. Loving both the geometric triangle dresses and the strappy sundress.

Will you be at Uniqlo picking up pieces or are you getting tired of collaborations yet?

I think the US doesn't really follow the motto on the dollar bill. I still go to work so stores are probably open for business!

The other item from the menswear line that I'm digging are the plaid shirts. Plaid makes for great layering over or under a T, is versatile and can add a little bit of hipster to anyone's outfit. lawn suit with silk dupatta price , lawn suits in 1000
