Sample Sale Report: Theyskens' Theory, Helmut Lang

Stopped by the Theysken’s Theory and Helmut Lang Sample Sale on Saturday morning to a completely serene shopping experience. Maybe because it was just after 11am and people weren’t awake yet for some to shop? The sale was neat and spacious with row upon row of orderly racks. There were only about 3 other shoppers perusing the racks as I admired the gorgeous clothing and shoes by Olivier Theyskens. My attention first was to the shoe area where Boots and Pumps are going for $149 a pop and flats are $99. Sizes ranged from 35.5 to 40 with the majority of sizes being in the 37-39 range. My particular fave were the velvet wedges and the X-strap wedges seen so prominently on the debut runway. If you are a size 35 like myself you wan’t have any luck in the shoe area.

Helmut Lang dresses were $99-159 but for the Theyskens’ Theory they range from $129-229. There were so many beautiful backless floaty numbers in pretty prints that I feel like I still saw on the floors of Bloomingdales. Slouchy Tee Shirts are $39 while tops are $59. Jackets and outerwear are $249 and top out at $299 for leathers. I was enamored by some silver metallic finished jeans at $69 but unfortunately they only had a few pairs left in sizes 24 and 25.

As for Helmut Lang my fave pieces were this sequin Blazer at $199 and the brushed trench at $219.

If you are looking for clean, elegant clothes with a modern gothic flair, this is your sale. I’m holding out for further markdowns though. Let me know if you go and they slash prices!

Narcisco Rodriguez Fall 2009, Central St Martins Fall 2009, Nina Ricci Fall 2009

Those designers pulled the wool over our eyes! Quite literally, hats at both Narcisco Rodriguez and Nina Ricci came right down to almost the tip of your nose. Don't worry though, those models could still see, via holes in the style of Dumb Donald from Fat Albert at Narcisco Rodriguez and the Central St Martins grads. Of all these looks I prefer Olivier Theyskens take at Nina Ricci, it looks sleeker and more spy like with a mesh overlay hiding the eyes. If three's a trend, here we have it! Although I don't forsee this one going anywhere far beyond the runway.
