Tom's Barefoot Cocktail Party

Last week I had the unique opportunity to join in the TOMS shoes sponsored One Day Without Shoes festivities by stopping by the Charles Nolan boutique in the Meatpacking District. They were hosting a Barefoot Cocktail Party as part of worldwide events around the world that includes cities like Venice, Dubai and London.

The idea around ‘One Day Without Shoes’ is for people to realize how hard it is to live without shoes. TOMS Shoes’ founder and Chief Shoe Giver, Blake Mycoskie says, “A shoe company asking people to go barefoot? I know it’s odd, but we are so excited for people to once again join us in One Day Without Shoes. We ask people to go the day, part of the day, or even just a few minutes, barefoot, to experience what millions of children endure every day. Awareness and empathy are the catalysts of change.”

I ditched my ballet flats at the door and tested out the different surfaces set up for party goers to imagine life without shoes through dried grasses, rocks and moss. It was interesting to remember what so many people in the world experience on a daily basis as shoes really protect feet from elements, prevent disease and harm.

I have to say that it was quite the unique event as I'm not used to being barefoot in public, let alone somewhere in NYC, but I applaud TOMS for bringing awareness to the importance and value of footwear in the lives of so many in the world. TOMS was founded on a simple premise: For every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need.

TOMS are the super comfortable and lightweight shoes that have a heart. I'm sold! I'm definitely planning on purchasing a pair although I'm not sure what size to order. Anyone have experience with TOMS sizing?

its pretty true to size! they say it molds your feet after a couple of wears and it definitely gets looser. so so comfy, get your regular size ;)
