Trends: Sandstorm, in the Nude

When I was looking at Resort 2010, I noticed an emerging color trend. Nudes, khaki, buff and flesh tones were taking the runway by storm. From Alexander Wang to Helmut Lang, Balenciaga andElise Overland, everyone was feeling the nudes. They were sporty at Miu Miu, preppy at Balenciaga, sexy at Preen and mysterious at Yves Saint Laurent and goddess like at Temperley and Yigal Azrouel.

The tones were often paired with each other or greys to create layered neutrals that are full of sophistication and depth. There is something soft yet seductive about fleshy tones. I suppose you can call them your not so basic basic? This ain't your average pair of khaki's. Are you feeling it?

Trends: Turban vrs Head Wrap

Ever since Prada's jewel tone turbans stormed the runways in Spring 2007 they've just been stuck in my mind as a fun and fascinating head accessory! I did have a chance to buy one at the Prada Sample Sale for $50 but it was just too high off my head that it made me look like I had an egghead! I since found this metallic turban during the H&M loves Kylie collection.

Obviously I'm not the only one who is still stuck on turbans, as Yigal Azrouel recently featured them in his Resort 2010 collection on every model in a plethora of great colors! These added the perfect refined but fresh touch to his collection.

While at Rag & Bone Resort 2010, they featured scarves tied on the head in a somewhat Turban like, they left the ends hanging down for a more urban grunge goddess feel.

The thing about turbans is they are a bit hard to pull off on an everyday basis, so that's why I couldn't help but fall for this feminine Liliana silk headband from Eugenia Kim that I just picked up at her sample sale. Her sale is going on until tomorrow, in case you want one!

Stefano Pilati for YSL obviously believes in head wraps as every girl at the YSL Resort 2010 show had a white or black version.

New Skirt Shape of a Confused Economy: Hi-Lo Tulip

3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2010

I was looking at the Resort 2010 collections and noticed that something interesting was going on with the hemlines. No longer is the micro mini or the maxi the new length, but hi-low tulip style skirts seem to be the way to go. Designers like Phillip Lim, Jason Wu, Alice Temperley and Alexander Wang showed this look with Wang pushing hardest with 5 out of 41 looks featuring the new skirt shape.

Perhaps it's because the economic outlook looks uncertain and if you abide by the Hemline Index Theory, designers are not sure where to go next? The Hemline Index theory believes in a relationship between skirt lengths and the economy, in good times the hemlines rise, while in bad they fall. This hasn't seemed true recently but it's an interesting concept nonetheless.

I think this look could be lengthening to the leg, which is a good thing but not for everyone especially for women when hoping to hide upper portions of leg. While the back portion of the skirt is longer the front reveals just as much as a mini, if not more when sitting down. I like Lim and Wang's fluid drapey approach as opposed to Wu and Temperley's approach that may add unwanted hip attention.
