Moths, Beware of Cedar Wood Blocks

Being from California, the idea of packing way clothes at the end of the season used to be so foreign to me, and it wasn't until I heard co-workers talking that I realized stored clothes had to be protected from moths.

Traditional moth balls generally contain chemicals naphthalene and/or paradichlorobenzene that kill moths with their fumes. Not only do these chemicals smell horrible, they are toxic and can pose a serious health risk!

Two healthy and environment-friendly alternatives are lavender and cedar. My personal favorite are cedar blocks because they're affordable and renewable. Cedar blocks can be sanded lightly with sandpaper (or a nail file) to renew aroma. Even if you're not packing away clothes for the season, cedar can be helpful in keeping your closet and drawers fresh.

You can pick up a pack of 8 from Lowe's for $4 or a 20 pack from Bed Bath & Beyond for $8.
