Dries Van Noten - Runway Review
Dries Van Noten's Collection was all about the type of clothes that any woman can put on and feel a sense of stylish ease and confidence. It's was not a collection that is loud or in your face, but it is a solid collection that is very commercial and very wearable. The styling was loose easy and comfortable. Non-stuctured soft jackets with rolled sleeves, relaxed fit shifts and shirt dresses, paperwaist skirts and slouchy pants.
Mostly in a palatte of black, white and tones of gold/yellow ochre with some purple and orange thrown in the mix. There was a strong focus on the grid/square shown graphically, and also in a silk jacquard. Other prints included dip dye and stripes a noted departure from his usual eclecctic global influences.
This collection really is evidence that a few great accessories can really tie together a look. As his previous collections had many lustworthy jewels, I was curious to see what would happen next. And his bell necklaces and bracelets are mostly formed from hundreds of rings strung together, similar to Fall 2008's bangles strung together to form a necklace. But it looked completely different on a smaller scale and in metal, it was a much cleaner but still visually interesting look. His metal sequin tie on bracelets and beaded shoes referenced ethnic influences that reminded me of Spring 2008 but simplified and made cleaner.
Overall I thought the collection was tasteful and well put together, although it is not my personal style. I do love and want all the accessories though!
