The 4th Annual Vendy Awards Oct 18th

What: An intense cook-off between the best sidewalks chefs in New York City. Also acts as a fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project, a membership-based non-profit organization that stands up for vendors’ rights.
Where: Tobacco Warehouse, Dumbo, Brooklyn
When: 10/18/2008, 3pm-7pm

Tickets are $80 in advance, $100 at the door

Tickets may seem kind of pricey but they are considered a tax-deductible contribution to the Street Vendor Project. You also get all the free food you can eat from the city’s best street chefs and an open bar of wine, beer and soda.

This Years Finalists are:

Fauzia Abdur-Rahman from “Heavenly Delights”- 161st Street and Sheridan Avenue, Bronx

Meru Sikder from “Biriyani Cart” - 46th Street & Sixth Avenue, Manhattan

Mohammed Rahman from “Kwik Meal” - 45th Street & Sixth Avenue, Manhattan

Rafael Soler from “Soler Dominican” - Clinton Street & Bay Street, Brooklyn (weekends only)

The Vendley Brothers (Jesse, Brian, Dave) from “Calexico Carne Asada” - Wooster & Prince Streets, Manhattan

This year also brings for the first time awards for Street Sweets and includes:
The Treats Truck, The Dessert Truck, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Wafels and Dinges

If you can't make it to this event, you should still check out these vendors whenever you have the chance as they are simply the best of the best.

$80!!?? That's about 160 meals from any of these trucks.

Can't argue with your logic!!! I personally use the vendy's as a guideline for which street vendors go on my list of must try's. I tried last year's winner the Dosa Man and was really excited that I did!!! He was not only great but nice too!
