Runway Review: Alexander Berardi

Lani and I had the chance to check out Alexander Berardi's show during NYFW. Not to be mistaken for a relative of Alexander Berardi, the young NYC based designer's fans include Ally Hilfiger and Bee Shaffer. We spotted Ms Hilfiger sitting in the front row.

The show was definitely one of the more crowded ones we attended, with a massive line up of attendees lined up down 18th Street for check in. Perhaps this was a very personal showing, the crowd included many interesting characters, decked out in their fashion week best and a plethora of friends waiting with bouquets of flowers.

The clothing was very wearable with a focus on clean shapes and flattering silhouettes. Skinny Tux looks and dresses that looked like oversized men's shirts slunk down the runway. Velvet, sequin and textural elements were key in the evening looks. Ditsy Polka dots were prevalent in many of the daywear looks. I think my fave piece was the rose petal sheath. The collection was nothing ground breaking but I think there are plenty of hot items for the designer's UES clientele.

I love that at least one of these girls appears to have some curves! Yay for designers who use real people for their runway "hangers."

I definitely agree that having some meat on the bones is positive which is why I applaud Mark Fast for not being afraid to go against the norm with his runway models.
